Live With Sara - What's the Deal With Dye Lots? And a Little Christmas Fun! | Posh Pooch Designs

"Fear The Beard" By Calleigh's Cips and Crochet Creations

Today's Topic is:
What's The Deal With Dye Lots?

See The Video on my Youtube Channel At This LINK

Why do some yarns have them and

 Some do not.

First of all What's a Dye Lot:

A Dye Lot is the number given to each ball or skein of yarn dyed in the same batch. Even though the colors might be the same, the dye may have change from batch to batch.

Just because the yarns are the same yarn brand, fiber and  color does not mean it is the same dye lot.

There can be slight changes in shade that you may not even notice till you are in the middle of a project.

Okay so back to the original Question,
Why do some yarns have a dye lot and some do not?

Acrylic Yarn manufacturers tend to dye the yarn while it is in the fiber stage, which mixes the color in before it is spun into yarn. So it does not have a dye lot as it is a part of the fiber, and the colors are true colors.

Wool, Cotton and other fibers manufacturers dye the yarn while it is in the yarn stage, so the colors will slightly vary.
So it will have a Dye lot number.

But always, always check to make sure the dye lot numbers match, especially if you are needing several.

By Sara Sach of Posh Pooch Designs

A Few Weeks Ago Someone asked me if I had a Dish Soap Dress Crochet Pattern. I did not have one, but then I later remembered, that I had made a Dish Soap Apron

It looks like Mrs. Claus' Apron.
Then I thought it would be fun to make some in
 some other colors.
Here is a Snowman and A Holiday One With a Cardinal Button. (I Love Cardinals) These are made with Single Crochet stitches in place of the Ruffle.

Live Video - What's Your Favorite Yarn Color | Posh Pooch Designs

Live With Sara of
I received an very nice email from a young girl who is 9 years old,
and has been crocheting for about a year.
I am always happy to hear about children learning to crochet.

She asked me 3 Questions:
1. What is my Favorite Color?
I Love Bright yellow because it is a happy color, full of sunshine and makes me feel warm.

2. What is your Favorite color of Yarn to work with?
I enjoy working with blue yarn, light to medium shades because I think you can really see the stitches and textures well.

3. What is your least Favorite color of Yarn to work with?
I really dislike working with black yarn by itself because it is so very hard to see and find your stitches. Now pair it with a bright green pink, yellow or white and then it is really lovely.
4. What's Your Favorite Brand of Yarn?
Red Heart yarns, Of Course!

Then I received this Question, and I really had to think a bout it.
"Which Comes First, The Crochet Pattern or the Yarn?

And Answer is Yes.
Sometimes the Yarn comes first. I am just walking along a new yarn, or color jumps out at me and them I buy some. I save it for just the right pattern.

But them sometimes, I have a pattern or design in mind, and I go looking fir the perfect yarn.
