Halloween, Dogs & Grandkids

Halloween Safety for your Furbaby:

1.Do not let your Sweet furbaby eat chocolate, it is toxic to them!

Chocolate is made from the fruit (beans) of the cacao tree. Theobromine, a component of chocolate, is the toxic compound in chocolate. (Caffeine is also present in chocolate, but in much smaller amounts than Theobromine.)

Unsweetened (baker's) chocolate contains 8-10 times the amount of Theobromine as milk chocolate. Semi-sweet chocolate falls roughly in between the two for Theobromine content. White chocolate contains Theobromine, but in such small amounts that Theobromine poisoning is unlikely

2. Do not let them Eat artificial Sweeteners!

Xylitol is a sugar alcohol -- an artificial sweetener created from birch, raspberries, plums and corn.1 This sweetener is found in many human "sugar free" products, such as gum, candies and other sweets. In humans, high doses may have a mild laxative effect, but in dogs, ingestion could be fatal.

3. Do have plenty of healthy dog treats.

Have plenty of healthy dog treats to keep them . Or their favorite chew bone. They will probably be nervous with all the people coming to your door and all the kids giggling and noise out side. Even dogs who love people can get annoyed at all the commotion.

4. Lastly, Watch out for wrappers.

The next day or week after Halloween, you will need to be on the look out for wrappers of candy and gum. Those little trick or treaters probably left a few. They still small good and Dogs sometimes will swallow them. Well, that can be very bad if they get stuck in their intestines. Dogs, smell, swallow and ask questions later, so you will need to be on the look out.

Have a Safe and Fun Halloween, and save some snickers for me!

12 Collars of Christmas - Pattern # 4 "The Skull"

12 Collars of Christmas, Pattern
 # 4: "The Skull".

THIS CROCHET PATTERN HAS BEEN
 UPDATED WITH LOTS OF PHOTOS,
AND A BRAND NEW VIDEO AT THIS LINK

I decided that for Halloween I wanted to design a dog
collar that was black,
but not scary. More on the fun side.
But the Collar was too plain, even with the "Skull" applique
I love the picot stitch on baby things  hats,
and some other items, but not sure what it would look
like on a collar. I put the picot stitch all around the collar,
I love it!
It  gives the collar the appearance of having spikes.
How cool is that!

Here is the Crochet pattern for the Dog Collar "The Skull".

If you make any of these collars...
I sure would love to see some pics of your pooches
 wearing them!!!!!

Recipe For Pumpkin Dog Cookies!!!!

There is nothing cuter then Rosie in her pumpkin outfit!
Recipe For Pumpkin Dog Cookies. Someone posted on my Facebook fan page that they give thier dogs  pumpkin dog cookies. So I decided to find a recipe for some. If you look at the ingredients, they are people friendly too.

Here it is:

2 eggs
1/2 cup canned pumpkin
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons dry milk
2 1/2 cups flour (wheat is probably better or even potato flour)
water

Directions:Prep Time: 15 mins

Total Time: 55 mins

1 Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
2 Blend eggs and pumpkin together; add salt, dry milk, and flour.
3 Add water as needed to make the dough somewhat workable.
4 The dough should be dry and stiff, don't be concerned with crumbs being left in the bowl.
5 You will need to mix this with your hands because it is too stiff for an electric mixer.
6 Roll to 1/2-inch thick.
7 Cut into shapes. 8 Place 1" apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
8 Bake for 20 minutes on one side, then turn over and bake another 20 minutes.

Dog bone shape cookie cutters are fun!

Pumpkin, whether fresh or canned is really good for the health of your pet.  Pumpkins are full of Vitamins A and  C, Iron, and Fiber. Plus it contains lots of Beta Carotene, which is an essential antioxidant. As a matter of Fact pumpkin is good for us, too. Please, Do not give your pet pumpkin pie, there is just to much sugar in them. if they get a few bites, it is probably ok, though. Just don't slice them off a big piece with cool whip.

No Pumpkin pie for Maximo and Rosie

No nutritional value in the stem!

Yappy Howl-loween!

I Love Ravelry!

I Love Ravelry!
A few weeks ago my daughter and grandbabies were home visiting for the week-end. We were walking in the "Walk for the cure". As my mother is fighting Breast Cancer.

Me, Mom in the pink hat, Grandaughter Calleigh, Daughter Elisabeth
During my daughter's visit she asked if I had heard of Ravelry. Elisabeth has a at home Business called "Calleigh's Clips and Crochet Creations"  (check out her button.) Well, I said no, So she showed me the web page.

OH  My Goodness! I was addicted immediately!!
                                                             http://www.ravelry.com/

So what is Ravelry?

It is a Crochet and Knit community of wonderful people. All sharing thier projects and patterns and ideas.  If you Crochet or knit you must check it out!

Then my Daughter said, "you should put your patterns on Ravelry and see if people would like to buy them." All my designs were and are in my head. I only crochet dog and dog related items, well mostly.
All the patterns are my own designs. The hard part was going to be putting them on paper. I mean I know what I do...but didn't know how to tell  what I do.

LOL Sounds funny, but Crochet Design is a Art to me.

Just a few of my Creations:

Beanie For Small Dogs

Posh Snuggle Pouch

Rosie's Basic Sweater for Dogs

Dog bone Rug or Mat

So I have begun to load my patterns on Ravelry!  Some are Free, Most are not. But these are one of a kind doggie sweaters, hats, snuggle bags, costumes, doggie stuff and more.

Please, Go check out "Ravelry" you will find yourself as addicted as I am.

Three Day Get Away Got My Creative Juices Flowing!!!!!

My Hubby and I decided, at the last minute, to get away for a few days up at Grand lake, here in Oklahoma.
We left Thursday afternoon and I was greeted with this beautiful Sunset!
The first morning my hubby went golfing..ugh!  But I , got out my tools:  yarns, crochet hooks, my note book and a cup of coffee, and started creating.  I always start with a rough drawing and work from there.

With a wonderful view of the lake, and a chill in the air..I was thinking about Christmas!

The afternoon was great, we went for a drive and saw lots of wonderful wild life!

American Bald Eagle

Beaver

Turkey buzzard eating a Armadillo

Gray Fox

Great horned Owl

White Tail Deer

Then we went for a wonderful walk on the beach!

We came back on Sunday afternoon..I loved the beauty and the calm of the lake.  I have often heard that oklahoma is not a beautiful place because we don't have mountians, but there is lots of beautiful things to see, I could have loaded over 300 pics of beauty from just one week-end.  A beautiful place and lots of time to crochet ...What more could I ask for?????
