Furry Baby Bum Cover Crochet Pattern This is a photo prop,
for laying on a newborn baby when getting its picture taken. It is basically a round furry disc.
I was asked to make this for A lady
Who was having angel wings made for a newborn picture and just needed the baby's bottom covered, with the same yarn as the wings.
I know, I know ,
This is for a human baby,
not a fur baby!!!
I don't have a new born baby,
so my bear had to be the model.
This Baby Bum Cover was a special request from a new born photographer.
She asked for it to be about 7 to 8 inches and for it to curl around the baby bum,
as well as be furry to go with a set of angel wings she had. She loves the bum cover.
The Pattern :
Skill- Easy
Materials-
Hook : J
Fun fur - I used White
Baby yarn - I used Blue
Stitches used:
Chain - ch
Single crochet - sc
Double Crochet - dc
Slip Stitch - sl st
Rd : 1 - using 1 strand each of the yarns, Ch 3, 10 dc in the
2nd ch from the hook, join with a sl st to form a circle, ch 3
Rd : 2 - 1 dc in the same st as the ch 3, 2 dc in each dc around,
join, ch 3
Rd : 3 - Repeat R : 2
R : 4 - 1 dc in the 1st 3 dc, 2 dc in the next dc, *1 dc in next 3 dc,
2 dc in the next dc, repeat from * around. You should notice the
bum cover starting to circle on the edges.
R : 5 - Repeat R : 4, only ch 1 instead of ch 3
R : 6 - 1 sc in each dc around, join, ch1
R : 7 - 1 sl st in each sc around, , join and tie off.

Tape Measure
Ribbon- 24 inches of your choice ribbon
1 Decorative Button of Choice
Rolled Tulle- About 18 12 inch length - your choice of colors
Yarn- Caron Simply Soft, worsted weight yarn- any color
Any color of Worsted weight yarn can be used, I really the softness
and shininess of Caron Simply soft for this project.
Stitches used:
Chain - ch
Double Crochet - dc
Slip Stitch - sl st
Getting Started:
The first thing you need to do is measure your dog's tummy according to the picture.
Add one inch to the measurement for comfy fit.
Belly Band -
Note : Ch1 at the end of each row is a turning ch, and does not count as a st.
R : 1 - Ch 10, turn. 1 dc in the 2nd ch from the hook, 1 dc in each ch across, ch1, turn
R : 2 - 1 dc in the 1st 2 dc, ch1, skip the next dc, 1 dc in the next 2 dc, ch1, skip the next dc, 1 dc in the st 3 dcs, ch1, turn ( 2dc, ch1, skip1, 2dc, ch1, skip 1, 3 dc, ch1, turn)
R : 3 - 1 dc in each dc and in each ch across, ch1, turn
R : 4 - Repeat R : 2 ( 2dc, ch1, skip1, 2dc, ch1, skip 1, 3 dc, ch1, turn)
Continue to repeat R: 3 and R : 4 until the length needed, Making sure to end row on the end with 2dc. (We will be attaching the Tulle on the side with 3dc.)
Top Edging : Turn, ch 4, sl st in the next row side. * ch 4, sl st in the next row side. Repeat from * across top of belly band. Tie off leaving about a 18 inch tail of yarn to sew the band closed later. Do not sew closed till after the tulle is attached.
Attaching the Tulle for the Tutu:
1. Cut the Rolled Tulle in 12 inch lengths - I used 24 pieces. You can use more or less.
It just depends on how full of a tutu you want. if your dog is Bigger, you can use longer then 12 inch lengths, as well.
2. Lay 2 lengths of Tulle, one on top of the other, for a double thickness. Fold in half and pinch the middle together. With your Crochet hook, loop the Center of the Tulle through the 2nd and 3rd dc in the center of the bottom of the belly band. Then pull through, gently pulling it snug.
3. Continue this same technique, working from the center out, on each side of belly band.
I wanted the tummy left without tulle, for going potty, but you can continue to work all the way around if you desire.
Also, you may need to trim the tulle, mine definitely needed trimming.
Embellishments :
I chose Halloween Ribbon and a Sparkle Pumpkin Button.
I attached the Ribbon and sewed on the button in the back center of the belly band, as close and I could to the tutu skirt.

Two or Three Fun Clay colors and
3 Metal Crochet Hooks.
Knead the clay until it is soft.
and roll it out into thin canes,
Twisted them together gently.
Then folded them over twice.
Rolled them in a ball.
You want the colors to mix
without blending together.
Then I rolled out a thick cane,
and cut it to the right length. I gently pulled the hook into the clay. No Glue or adhesive is needed.
I didn't have very many issues with bunching but I rolled it a little bit to smooth it out.
