It is a perfect snood for pooches who want to stay warm, 

and do it in Style!

We have been working on this Pattern for a while,

 trying to get the sizes and shape just right.

The Dog Snood slides easily over your dogs head 

and stays in place, without any button, 

strings or velcro to get caught in their hair. 

It is designed using Worsted weight (4) yarns.

The Pattern is designed with 3 sizes

Sizes: Pattern is written as XS with S and M 

XS – 2-5 lb. dogs, 

S – 6-10 lb. dogs, 

M – 11-15 lb. dogs

What are those Symbols and What do they mean?

The Way the yarn or garment is cared for has to do with the Fiber Content of the yarn. Wool can not be cared for the same as Cotton, or Acrylic.

So the first thing to look for on the yarn label is The Fiber content - This one is 100% Acrylic.

They are Care Instructions - For the yarn and as well as,

 items made from the yarn.

1.  Washing - How and at what water temperature it can be washed,

 or if you should hand wash, spot wash, or not at all.

2. Drying - How to Dry - Machine Dry low or medium heat, or

 hang to dry,

4. Ironing - If and How to Iron - Low, Medium or high, Don't use steam or not at all.

5. Bleaching - Is Bleaching okay - yes, spot bleach or no, never.

6. Dry Cleaning - Should it be dry cleaned.

Today we are discussing the first 3 Symbols, 
we will cover the other symbols on next week's
 Live Video.

What do those symbols mean?

A                     B                   C

A. The Yarn Weight -  This Skein  is a Super Bulky 6.

All Yarns are classified into different yarn weights.

This refers to the yarn's strand thickness.

          0. Lace

             1. Super fine –Sock, Fingering

             2. Fine –Baby, Sport Weight

             3. Light  - Light Worsted Weight, DK Weight

             4. Worsted Weight, Afghan

             5. Bulky – Chunky weight, Rug yarns

             6. Super Bulky – Blanket, Roving

             7. Jumbo - Super thick and Bulky ( new category)

  B. Knitting Symbol – 

   Needle 10 US/ 6 mm

   A Swatch of 10 sts wide by 14 rows = 4 x 4 inch swatch
 (10 X 10 centimeters)

  C. Crochet Symbol –

    K -10.5 / 6.5 mm

   A Swatch 9 single crochets wide and 12 rows = 4 x 4 inch swatch (10 X 10 centimeters)

Purple Baby Hats Crochet Pattern

I was  asked if I had a quick and easy infant hat crochet Pattern  that could be used
 for the "Purple Baby Hat Project".

I was not sure what the purple Baby Hat project was, 
so I did some research. 
It is an important  and needed project. 
I also had not  heard of "Shaken Baby Syndrome".
Once I read about it, I knew I needed to get this
 crochet Baby hat pattern out there.

"Asking knitters and crocheters to make purple infant hats as part of a campaign to stop shaken baby syndrome and infant abuse."

Here are some Facts About SBS
 or Shaken baby Syndrome.
"SBS is a form of child abuse that occurs when an adult or older child violently shakes a baby or young child.
It is estimated that 1,000-3,000 children in the 
United States suffer from SBS each year.
One fourth of the victims of SBS die, and 80 percent 
of survivors suffer from permanent brain damage."

Skill: Easy

Materials:

Crochet hook –I/ 5.50MM

Yarn – Any soft Worsted Weight (4)

             I used Red heart Soft (5 to 10 oz. depending on size)

Yarn Needle

Stitches:

Chain (ch)

Slip Stitch (slst)

Half Double Crochet (hdc)
Back Loop Only (BLO)

   Sizes:        Circumference           Length_

  Newborn        12 inches              5 inches

  3 Months        13  inches             5.5 inches

  6 Months        14 inches              6 inches

12 Months        15 inches              6.5 inches

24 months        16 inches              7 inches

Notes: pattern is written for the Newborn size, 

with bigger sizes in parentheses.

Ch1 at ends of rows does NOT count as a stitch.

R: 1 – Ch 20(22, 24, 26, 28)

Turn, 1 hdc in the 2^nd ch from the hook, 
and in each ch across, turn, ch1.

19 (21, 23, 25, 27) hdcs

R : 2 – Stitching in the BLO, 1 hdc in each hdc across, 
turn, ch1.
19 (21, 23, 25, 27) hdcs

R: 3 - Repeat R: 2 for as many rows as indicated for Size:

 Newborn  - 22 Rows, for a total of 24 Rows.

3 Months  -  24 Rows, for a total of 26 Tows.

6 Months  -  26 Rows, for a total of 28 Rows.

12 Months - 28 Rows, for a total of 30 Rows.

24 Months - 30 Rows, for a total of 30 Rows.

Once you have reach the width needed, 
place the sides of the hat together and slst closed.

Tie off, leaving about an 18 to 24 inch tail of yarn.

Thread the tail of yarn in the needle and 
gather to the top of the hat closed.
Flip over to the right side.

Add a small flower, bow  or applique if you like.

Materials:

Crochet Hook - H/ 5MM

Yarn – Worsted Weight or Cotton (4) Red, Brown, Green (small amount of each)
              small Amount of White and Black For face

Yarn Needle

Stitches:

Chain (ch)

Slip Stitch (slst)

Single Crochet (sc)

Half Double Crochet (hdc)

Double Crochet (dc)

Size: 4 ½ X 4 inches

Notes:

Rounds are joined with a slst

Ch3 counts as a Double Crochet

Pattern:

R: 1 – Ch 4, 9 dc in the 4^th ch from the hook, join, ch 3 (10dc)

R: 2 – 1 dc in the same stitch as the ch3, 2 dc in each sc around, join, ch 3 (20dc)

R: 3 - 1 dc in the same stitch as the ch3, 2 dc in each sc around, join, ch 1 (40dc)

R: 4 – 1 sc in the next 2 sts, 2hdc in the next st, 2 dc in the next st,
 2 hdc in the next st, 1 sc in the next 10 sc,

 2dc in the next st, 1 sc in the next 3, 
2dc in the next st, 1 sc in the next 3 sts.

2 dc in the next st, 

1 sc in the 10 sts, 2 hdc in the next st, 
2 dc in the next st, 2 hdc in the next st,

1 sc in the last 2 sts, join to 1^st sc, tie off weave in your ends.

(2sc, 2hdc, 2dc, 2dc, 10sc, 2dc,  3sc,  2dc,

3sc, 2dc, 10sc, 2hdc, 2dc, 2hdc, 2sc  = 40 sts)

Stem: Attach brown yarn to the center sc on the top of the apple, 

ch 5, slst in the 2^nd ch from the hook, and in the next 3 chs,

 join to the 1^st ch, tie off weave in your end. (4sc)

Leaf: With Green yarn, ch 8, Sc in the 2^nd ch from the hook,

 hdc in the next ch, dc in the next 2 chs, hdc in the next ch, 

sc in the next ch, slst in the last ch, tie off weave in your ends,

 sew to the top of the apple.
(sc, hdc, 2dc, hdc, sc, slst)

Eyes and Smile are optional

Eyes, make 2:

With White yarn, Ch3, 6 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook,

join to 1st sc, tie off leaving a 10 inch tail.

With Black yarn make a French knot in the center of the eye.

Sew onto the face of the Apple with the tail of yarn.

Smile: With black yarn and Needle, sew onto the Apple as shown on the picture.
