Today we are discussing 
Yarn Weights and Substitutions.

All Yarns are classified into different yarn weights.

This refers to the yarn's strand thickness.

          0. Lace

             1. Super fine –Sock, Fingering

             2. Fine –Baby, Sport Weight

             3. Light  - Light Worsted Weight, DK Weight

             4. Worsted Weight, Afghan

             5. Bulky – Chunky weight, Rug yarns

             6. Super Bulky – Blanket

             7. Jumbo - Roving 

                 Although most yarns are put in these categories, 

                 there is still " wiggle" room between thicknesses.

What if I do not have the correct weight the

 pattern calls for, Can I substitute a 

different yarn or weight?

The answer is yes, but it can be a little tricky.

Maximo is doing a lot better 

and is on the mend.

Dog Diaper for Small Dogs Crochet Pattern By Sara Sach | Posh Pooch Designs

The Doggie Diaper is designed for Small Female Dogs

 in heat or with potty issues.

I originally designed this for my 
Rosie when her glands burst and 
she had to have surgery.

It has a nice tail hole for a comfy fit.

And Can be adjusted within the size.

The Pattern has 3 Sizes - 
Extra Small, Small and Medium 
for Dogs from 4 - 15 pounds.

Dog Diaper for Small Dogs Crochet Pattern

Skill: Easy to Moderate...not hard, but a little tricky at times,
Because dogs are shaped weird. 

Material:

Hook : H

Yarn: Worsted Weight (4) -your choice of color 2 - 5 oz. depending on size
           Cotton yarn will work, I used Red Heart Super Saver

Yarn Needle
2 Buttons, 1 inch

Mini Pads - with adhesive

Stitches:

Chain (ch)

Single Crochet (sc)

Half Double Crochet (hdc)
Double Crochet
Single Crochet 2 together (sc2tog) Single Crochet decrease
Half Double Crochet 2 together (hdc2tog) Double Crochet decrease

Size: XS -4-6 lb. dogs
          S - 7-10 lb. Dogs
          M -11-15 lb. Dogs

From Waist to tail - 6(8,10) inches

Pattern Notes:
Pattern is Written For XS with Small, Medium in Parenthesis XS(S,M)
Ch1 does not count as a st.
Ch3 counts as a Double Crochet

Beginning at Crotch of the back of the diaper - 
Ch 7 (9, 11)

R: 1 - 1 sc in 2nd ch from the hook, 1 sc in each ch, ch 1, turn. 

    (6,8,10 sc)

R: 2 - 2 sc in the first st, 1 sc in the scs across, 2 sc in the last sc, ch 1, turn.
     (8,10,12 sc)

R: 3 - Repeat R: 2 (10, 12, 14 sc)

R: 4 - Repeat R: 2 (12,14,16 sc)

R: 5 - Repeat R: 2 (14, 16,18 sc)

  
R: 6 - Forming First Side of tail hole:
1 sc in the first  7 (8, 9)sc, ch1, turn

R: 7 - 1sc in each st across, 2 sc in the last sc, ch1, turn.(8, 9,10, sc)

R : 8 -  2sc in the 1st sc, 1 sc in each sc across,  ch1, turn.(9, 10,11 sc)

R : 9 - Repeat R: 7.(10, 11,12sc)

R: 10 - Repeat R : 8(11, 12,13sc)

R: 11 - Repeat R : 7(12, 13,14 sc)

R: 12 - Repeat R : 8(13,14,15 sc)

XS and S Skip R: 13, R: 14

R: 13 - Med only - Repeat R : 7 .(16 sc)

R: 14 - Med only - Repeat R : 8 (17 sc)

Forming the 2nd Side of the tail hole:
Attach yarn to other side of the diaper 

and  Repeat R : 6-14 on the right side, Do not tie off

Working Up the Back of the Diaper:

R : 15 -  2 sc in the first st, sc across right side,
join to other side with a sc, and sc across, ch1 turn.
(28, 30, 36 sc)

R: 16 - 2 sc in the first st, 1 sc in each st across, 2 sc in the last sc,
 ch1 turn.(30, 32, 38 sc)

   
R: 17 - Repeat R: 17  - XS Skip to R 21

R: 18 - Repeat R: 17 - S skip to R : 21

R: 19 -Med only - Repeat R : 17 

R: 20 - Med only - Repeat R : 17 

R: 21-26 - No increase sts on these rows- 1 hdc in each sc, ch1, turn.
Repeat as many rows as needed for size:  
     R: 21 - R: 24 - XS
     R: 21 - R: 25 - S 
     R: 21 - R: 26 - Med

R : 27 - 1 hdc in the 1st hdc, *hdc2to the next 2 hdc, 1hdc in the next hdc*
Repeat From * to * across row, tie, off and weave in the end.

Front of The Diaper-

R : 28 - Working on the opposite side of the beginning ch, 
attach yarn with a slip stitch , 1 sc in each st, ch1 turn
(6,8,10 sc)

R: 29 - 2 sc in first st, 1 sc in each st, ch1, turn
(7,9,11 sc)

R: 30 - Repeat R : 29 - (8, 10, 12 sc)

R: 31 - R: 42 - Repeat R: 30 for as many rows as needed size:
Do not tie off
     XS - R: 32 - R: 37
       S - R: 32 - R: 39
      M - R: 32 - R: 41

R: 32 - 1 Hdc in each sc across, ch 1 turn
           Repeat 1 times for S, Repeat 2 times For Med.

Waist Band and Button Tabs:

R: 33 - Ch7(8,11) slst in the 2nd ch from the hook, 
slst down the ch, I hdc in each hdc across,
Ch 7(8,11), Turn

R: 34 - 1 hdc in each ch, 1 hdc in each st across, 1 hdc in each slst, ch3, turn

R: 35 - 1 dc in each hdc across, ch1, turn

R: 36 :  1 hdc in each hdc across, ch1, turn

 Do not tie off, Sc

evenly  around the entire diaper, placing 2 sc in each corner,
Join to the 1st sc, tie off and weave in your ends.

Attach two buttons on the back of diaper as shown in the picture,
on the back of the diaper and push button through the tabs.
The Row of Double Crochet Stitches makes the diaper adjustable for a good comfy fit.

Note: Yarn can be stretchy, depending on what kind you use. 

if the diaper comes off, you can make a ch for a drawstring and 

lace it through the top and tie them on if needed.

Also, remember yarn can be stretchy, 

so if it is too big, go down a hook size or two.

Stitch markers are fun to Make and personalize with your own personality.

You choose your Clay color or colors,

 style of lettering and charms!

 They make great gifts in sets, also.

They are fun to make and Fun to use.

Get Your Supplies together and Let's Get Started.

You will need some polymer clay, a rolling pin 

and some tiny little cutters.

 I purchased all of these at Hobby Lobby.

** You do not have to use cutters, you can make beads 

if you like.

How to make Polymer Clay Beads - LINK

You will need some supplies from the Jewelry dept.

Some little pliers, 

Tiny beads

2 inch Eye pins

Lever back Ear wires 16mm

Tiny Jump rings if adding charms

I purchased all these at Hobby Lobby.

If you want to add charms here are few 

I found at Hobby Lobby

Any charms you like will work.
In The Video I show you 2 styles of Stitch markers

These Stitch Markers are plain, 
and use a Letter press for the letters.

This Style you add a Charm on the bottom and

 the letter is written on with a Sharpie.

I Love Them Both.

Both are great for Knitters and crocheters.

Yes, They are a great Tool to keep in your 
"Crochet Tool Box".

Before we talk about if they are needed,

Let's Talk about 

"What is a Stitch Marker?"

There are many styles of stitch markers

Plastic

Wire

 Clips

Decorative
You can even use a piece of yarn

The main purpose is the Same

- simply put 

To Mark a place or stitch.

If you do not have an official Stitch marker you can
 use, a piece of yarn, a paper clip, 
hair clip or safety pin. 
the main thing is to "mark" a Stitch.

They can also be used to indicate which hook was used,
 if the markers have letters on them.

Which do you like better?

The Tools:

Crocheting                                 Knitting

 1 hook                                 2 Needles

Yarn                                     Yarn

I know there are a lot of incidentals, such as 

stitch markers, measuring tape, yarn needles,

and more depending on the project.

I love to design using both techniques,

 But it seems that there is

"no love lost" Between  the 2 groups.

I have a hard time with this.

I have even been told, 

"You need to use more expensive yarns in your designs".

I totally understand using expensive yarns, 

as I love to play with all styles, 

textures and colors of yarns.

When I walk into Yarn Stores, sometimes 

I just stand there 

and soak in all the "Yarny Goodness".
I have even been know to "squeeze and caress" yarns.
I admit it.................

When it comes to any Pattern I design,

 whether Crochet or Knitting,

 is my goal to design a pattern that
anyone one is able to stitch it up.

I try to keep my patterns simple and

 I try to use yarns that are accessible, 

 You can always substitute any expensive yarns,
for less expensive yarns of similar weight.
And I often do this.

You can pick up a Crochet Hook or 

set of Knitting Needles for a few bucks.

As well as, pick  up a couple of skeins or balls of yarn

 for a couple of bucks.
Grab some Free patterns from Online, 

and get busy creating.

 Once People see that they can create fun 

and useful items,

they will learn to love this wonderful Art.

They may even gain confidence to tackle 

harder projects

 and spend more money on the expensive yarns, 

without fear of wasting it.

I want all people to be able to Crochet and Knit.

I think ALL people should love it, like I do!

I do not want anyone to feel they cannot

 learn to Knit or Crochet

 because they cannot afford it.

We all love yarn and creating things from yarn, whether we knit or crochet.
