Dog Diaper for Small Dogs Crochet Pattern By Sara Sach | Posh Pooch Designs

The Doggie Diaper is designed for Small Female Dogs
 in heat or with potty issues.
I originally designed this for my 
Rosie when her glands burst and 
she had to have surgery.

It has a nice tail hole for a comfy fit.
And Can be adjusted within the size.
The Pattern has 3 Sizes - 
Extra Small, Small and Medium 
for Dogs from 4 - 15 pounds.

Skill: Easy to Moderate...not hard, but a little tricky at times,
Because dogs are shaped weird. 

Material:
Hook : H
Yarn: Worsted Weight (4) -your choice of color 2 - 5 oz. depending on size
           Cotton yarn will work, I used Red Heart Super Saver
Yarn Needle
2 Buttons, 1 inch
Mini Pads - with adhesive

Stitches:
Chain (ch)
Single Crochet (sc)
Half Double Crochet (hdc)
Double Crochet
Single Crochet 2 together (sc2tog) Single Crochet decrease
Half Double Crochet 2 together (hdc2tog) Double Crochet decrease

Size: XS -4-6 lb. dogs
          S - 7-10 lb. Dogs
          M -11-15 lb. Dogs
From Waist to tail - 6(8,10) inches

Pattern Notes:
Pattern is Written For XS with Small, Medium in Parenthesis XS(S,M)
Ch1 does not count as a st.
Ch3 counts as a Double Crochet

Beginning at Crotch of the back of the diaper
Ch 7 (9, 11)
R: 1 - 1 sc in 2nd ch from the hook, 1 sc in each ch, ch 1, turn. 
    (6,8,10 sc)

R: 2 - 2 sc in the first st, 1 sc in the scs across, 2 sc in the last sc, ch 1, turn.
     (8,10,12 sc)

R: 3 - Repeat R: 2 (10, 12, 14 sc)

R: 4 - Repeat R: 2 (12,14,16 sc)

R: 5 - Repeat R: 2 (14, 16,18 sc)

  
R: 6 - Forming First Side of tail hole:
1 sc in the first  7 (8, 9)sc, ch1, turn

R: 7 - 1sc in each st across, 2 sc in the last sc, ch1, turn.(8, 9,10, sc)

R : 8 -  2sc in the 1st sc, 1 sc in each sc across,  ch1, turn.(9, 10,11 sc)

R : 9 - Repeat R: 7.(10, 11,12sc)

R: 10 - Repeat R : 8(11, 12,13sc)

R: 11 - Repeat R : 7(12, 13,14 sc)

R: 12 - Repeat R : 8(13,14,15 sc)

XS and S Skip R: 13, R: 14

R: 13 - Med only - Repeat R : 7 .(16 sc)

R: 14 - Med only - Repeat R : 8 (17 sc)

Forming the 2nd Side of the tail hole:
Attach yarn to other side of the diaper 
and  Repeat R : 6-14 on the right side, Do not tie off

Working Up the Back of the Diaper:
R : 15 -  2 sc in the first st, sc across right side,
join to other side with a sc, and sc across, ch1 turn.
(28, 30, 36 sc)

R: 16 - 2 sc in the first st, 1 sc in each st across, 2 sc in the last sc,
 ch1 turn.(30, 32, 38 sc)
   
R: 17 - Repeat R: 17  - XS Skip to R 21

R: 18 - Repeat R: 17 - S skip to R : 21

R: 19 -Med only - Repeat R : 17 

R: 20 - Med only - Repeat R : 17 

R: 21-26 - No increase sts on these rows- 1 hdc in each sc, ch1, turn.
Repeat as many rows as needed for size:  
     R: 21 - R: 24 - XS
     R: 21 - R: 25 - S 
     R: 21 - R: 26 - Med

R : 27 - 1 hdc in the 1st hdc, *hdc2to the next 2 hdc, 1hdc in the next hdc*
Repeat From * to * across row, tie, off and weave in the end.

Front of The Diaper-

R : 28 - Working on the opposite side of the beginning ch, 
attach yarn with a slip stitch , 1 sc in each st, ch1 turn
(6,8,10 sc)

R: 29 - 2 sc in first st, 1 sc in each st, ch1, turn
(7,9,11 sc)

R: 30 - Repeat R : 29 - (8, 10, 12 sc)

R: 31 - R: 42 - Repeat R: 30 for as many rows as needed size:
Do not tie off
     XS - R: 32 - R: 37
       S - R: 32 - R: 39
      M - R: 32 - R: 41

R: 32 - 1 Hdc in each sc across, ch 1 turn
           Repeat 1 times for S, Repeat 2 times For Med.


Waist Band and Button Tabs:
R: 33 - Ch7(8,11) slst in the 2nd ch from the hook, 
slst down the ch, I hdc in each hdc across,
Ch 7(8,11), Turn

R: 34 - 1 hdc in each ch, 1 hdc in each st across, 1 hdc in each slst, ch3, turn

R: 35 - 1 dc in each hdc across, ch1, turn

R: 36 :  1 hdc in each hdc across, ch1, turn

 Do not tie off, Sc
evenly  around the entire diaper, placing 2 sc in each corner,
Join to the 1st sc, tie off and weave in your ends.

Attach two buttons on the back of diaper as shown in the picture,
on the back of the diaper and push button through the tabs.
The Row of Double Crochet Stitches makes the diaper adjustable for a good comfy fit.

Note: Yarn can be stretchy, depending on what kind you use. 
if the diaper comes off, you can make a ch for a drawstring and 

lace it through the top and tie them on if needed.
Also, remember yarn can be stretchy, 
so if it is too big, go down a hook size or two.
