"Live With Sara" What is WPI ? | Posh Pooch Designs

"Live With Sara" What is WPI ?

On Today's Live Video Chat we are discussing
 what is WPI - And How do you do It.
WPI is Wraps Per Inch.
It is used to determine the thickness of Yarn.
It's important to know this, especially when you have a skein or ball of yarn without it's wrapper.

See The Video on my Youtube Channel at This LINK

Wraps Per Inch
You wrap your yarn around a ruler or pencil,
 as many times as you can in a inch.
Do not let the yarn stretch,
and do not let the yarn sag.
Then Count How many Wraps Per Inch.
 Use this Chart below to determine the
 weight of the yarn.

American Yarn Weight Chart
WPI            Yarn Weight
23 - 35  = Lace (0)
19 - 22  = Fingering (1)
15 -18   =  Sport (2)
12 -14   =  DK Weight (3)
9 - 11    = Worsted Weight (4)
7 - 8      =  Bulky Weight (5)
6           = Super Bulky (6)
5           = Jumbo Bulky (7)

These are approximates, but will help you if the yarn does not have a label or the label does not have the information.
