Sock Monkey Mittens Crochet Pattern by Sara Sach of

But I decided to put it on my Blog for Free.
This pattern has 3 sizes and even if you do not want
the Sock Monkey Style,
It's a great basic mitten crochet pattern.
Sock Monkey Mittens Crochet Pattern

Skill: Easy to Moderate (making the thumbs are a little tricky)
Materials:
Crochet Hook - I / 5.00 MM
1 inch button
Yarn needle
Yarn: WW (4) Vanna's Choice-Taupe mist for
monkey brown (C1)
Red, (C2) White (C3) & Black (C4)
any Worsted Weight yarn
Stitches:
Chain (ch)
Double Crochet (dc)
Single Crochet (sc)
Double Crochet Decrease (dc dec) stitch 2 dc together.
Sizing: Small (Medium and large in
parenthesis)
Approximately Small is 5, Med. is 7 Large is 8 1/2 in.
These are approximate sizes and can
be adjusted by hook size as well.
Ribbing:
R: 1 - With C2, ch 8 (9, 10) 1 sc in
the 2nd ch from the hook, 7(8, 9) sc, ch1, turn
R: 2 - 8 (9, 10) sc in the back loops,
ch 1 turn
R: 3 – R: 20 (22, 24) Repeat R: 2
Put the two short ends together and sc
the ends closed to form a ring of ribbing,
Hand:
R: 1 - With C3, attach to the ribbing
and sc around the upper edge
of the ribbing for 20 (22, 24) sc, join, ch 1
R: 2 - 1 sc in each sc, join,
R: 3 - Change to C1, dc in the first 7
(8, 9) sts, 2 dc in the next st,
1 dc in the next 7 (8, 9) sts, dc in the rest
of the sts, join, ch 2
R: 4 - 2dc in the first st, 1 dc in the
next 8 (9, 10) sts, 2 dc in the next st,
1 dc in each st remaining, join, ch 2
R: 5 (Skip R: 5 for size small) 2 dc in
the first st, 1 dc in the next 10 (11) sts,
2 dc in the next st, finish dc
around, join
Thumb Opening:
R: 6 - Ch 2, dc in first 9 (10, 11)
sts, ch 2m skip next 6 (7, 8)
sts, dc in the last sts around, join, ch 2
R: 7 - 1 dc in each dc and ch around,
join, ch 2
R: 8 - 1 dc dec, 1 dc in each dc, 1 dc
dec with the last 2 dcs, join, ch 2
R:
9 - (Skip R: 9 for size Small) 1 dc in each dc around for both
M and L, join,
ch 2
R: 10 -Change to C 3, 1 dc in each dc,
around, join, ch 1
R: 11 - (Skip this row for size small)
1 dc in each for M and L, join, ch 2
R: 12 - 1 dc dec, 1 dc in each dc, 1 dc
dec with the last two sts, join, ch 2
R: 13 – R: 14 - 1 dc dec. 1 dc in each dc, 1 dc dec with the last two
sts, join
Sew opening in the end of the mitten
closed from the inside of mitten.
Forming the Thumbs:
R: 1- With the right side of the Mitten
out, attach C1 to thumb opening
and dc in each dc, and sc in the skipped chs
around, join, ch 2
R: 2 - dc in each dc, sc in each sc,
join, ch 2
R: 3 - dc in each dc, join, ch 2
R: 4 - (Skip this row for size small)
dc in each dc, join, ch 2 for m & L sizes, Ch2
R: 5 - 1 dc dec, dc in rest of sts,
join, cut off leaving a tail of yarn for closing thumb hole.
Pull thread to inside of mitten, sew hole
closed securely and tie off.
Ears: make 2 for each mitten
2sc in each sc around, join and tie
off. Place on the sides of the mitten
and sew on with
Matching yarn.
Eyes: make 2 for each mitten
making sure to close the hole in the center of
the eye.
Place on the front of the face and sew in place with matching yarn.
Mouth: make one for each mitten
With White yarn, ch 7, sc all the way
around both sides of the
chain to form an oval shape, fasten off, set a side.
With
Red yarn, ch 5, sc all the way around to form another oval,
sew on top
of the white oval, then place and sew on the front of the monkey's face.
Pom pom: make one for each mitten
Cut an 8 inch piece of matching yarn, and
slip it through all the loops and tie very
tightly. Clip all the loops and trim
evenly. Use the two long yarn pieces to secure
onto the top of the hat.
