The Maggie Dog Sweater 
For Any and All Size Dogs 
Crochet Pattern By Sara Sach of

This Dog Sweater has Sizes XXS, XS, S and M, 
but also has notes for Adjusting the crochet pattern
 for any size Dog, Cat or pet.
It's an easy pattern and works up relatively easy.
 No fancy Stitches or techniques.



But keep in mind
 Dog's Bodies 
are weird.
And Don't worry, 
It's Got plenty 
of "Space" 
For the 
boy dogs.

Skill: Super Easy

Materials:
Crochet Hook – I / 5.25 ( 5.50)MM
Yarn: Worsted weight (4) about 3.5 oz. or more depending on size
Tape Measure:  To measure your dog.
Yarn Needle

Stitches:
Chain (ch)
Slip Stitch (sl st)
Single Crochet (sc)
Double Crochet (dc)
Foundation Double Crochet (FDC)

Sizes: Sizes are approximates
Pattern is written for Medium with the other sizes in Parenthesis M(S, XS, XXS)
M: 11-15 lb. Dogs
S: 8-10 lb. dogs
XS: 4-7lb dogs
XXS: 2-3 lb. dogs
Easy to Adjust –  2 chs = about 3 inches
(instructions for adjusting the pattern are through out the pattern)

The First thing you need to do is measure your dog, according to the picture.
By using these measurements you can make adjustments to the sweater so it
 fits your dog comfortably.


Notes:
Ch3 counts as double Crochet

 Pattern:

R: 1 – Starting with the Belly band,
FDC 54 (50, 44, 40)
Join in a circle, to the ch3 with a sl st, ch 3

You can add more chs for width for larger dogs, 
according to your dog’s measurements.

R: 2 - 1 dc in each dc, join

R: 3 – R: 5  -Repeat R: 2

Skip To R: 9 For XXS

R: 6 – Repeat R: 2

Skip To R: 9 For XS

 R: 7 - Repeat R: 2

Skip To R: 9 For S

R: 8 – Repeat R: 2

For Larger Dogs add more rows if needed here.
 According to your measurements.

R: 9 - Forming the back of the sweater, 1 dc in the next 27(25, 22, 20) dc, ch 3, Turn

 If you added extra chs for the width, you will need to that same amount here,
You will also need to measure the length of your dog and determine
 how long you want the sweater. Add in or subtract the extra rows here.

R: 10 - 1 dc in each dc, ch 3, turn

R: 11 – R: 13 - Repeat R: 10 – XXS
R: 11 – R: 14 - Repeat R: 10 – XS
R: 11 – R: 15 - Repeat R: 10 – S
R: 11 – R: 16 - Repeat R: 10 – M

If you need more length, add more Rows here
Remember again to adjust your count for width.

R: 17 - Forming the Neckband, ch 3, 1 dc in each dc,
 Then ch 14(12, 10, 8) and attach to the other side of the back of sweater,
 to form a loop for the neck band, ch 3

You will need to measure your dog’s neck and adjust the amount 
of chain for a comfortable fit.

R: 18 - 1 dc in each ch and dc around neck band, join, Ch 2

R: 19 – 1 Hdc in each dc, join to ch2, ch1

R: 20 -1 sc in each hdc, join to ch2, tie off, weave in your ends.


R: 21 - Optional Skirt
Attach yarn to the bottom side of the belly band, lining up with the back section.
Sweater1 dc in the next 27(25, 22, 20) dc, ch 3, Turn
Make sure the row is evenly placed in the back of the Sweater.

R: 22 – 1 dc in each dc, ch3, turn.

R: 23 – R: 23 –Repeat R: 22 - XXS
R: 23 – R: 24 –Repeat R: 22 - XS
R: 23 – R: 25 –Repeat R: 22 - S
R: 23 – R: 26 –Repeat R: 22 – M

Skirt Trim – Sc Across the last row, up the side , and across the bottom
 of the Belly band, then down the other side, join to 1st sc, tie off weave in your end.

Under Side Trim -
Attach Yarn to the underneath side of the neckband, and sc evenly all around
 the inside of the sweater, down each side and across the top of the belly band
 joining back to the underneath side of the neck band, join and tie off.

Now add flowers, bows, and any appliques you like.

  1. I love this dog sweater, but have trouble with the Foundation Double Crochet (FDC), can I do another stitch & make it look good, thanks, Mary

  2. Mary. You can do a single crochet then come back with a hdc. Same thing. The foundation stitch just does it all at once.
