Can I Substitute Cotton For Acrylic Yarn?

1. It depends on the Yarn Weight -
Stay with the same Yarn Weight
If it's a Med (4) you will want to stick with a med (4)

2. It depends on the project
Acrylic yarn does not not hold it's shape when it gets
wet, like Cotton does. Also, cotton holds up better when Washed often.

3. Cotton is cooler then Acrylic -

Cotton is better for some Summer items, like hats and headbands.
It is Cooler and absorbs the sweat.

4. Sometimes it's Just preference -
Take Washcloth For example:

Some people prefer cotton because they are soft and
are absorbent, but can also stink and get moldy.

While Acrylic can be a little more scratchy, which
exfoliates the skin, and cleans dishes better,
But wears out faster.

So The Bottom Line Is,

"Do What Works Best For You!

  1. Hi Sarah, first of all I want to thank you for the 3 late red potholder you did. I love it. I have made several. I have that is similar but two layers. I gave one of the 3 layer ones to my daughter and she slide her hand under the two layers and use it to grab stuff. I was wondering if you could do a tutorial on a potholder like yours but use the regular granny square. I am trying but cannot figure ot hoe to connect them
