Pick up a Mug or glass and Stitch up a Checked Mug
 Rug to go with it. Or maybe make them a set of
 matching mug rugs. they make great house warming
 gifts, or just gift some for any occasion.

You can never have too many mug rugs, and coasters.
The Checked Mug Rug is a great way to learn the
 color changing technique and make something fun
 and useful. And use up some left over cotton yarn scraps.


Get in Your Cotton yarn stash and see what colors you
 can put together. some some for every season and
 holiday colors, just to have on hand.

Checked Mug Rugs Crochet Pattern

Please Add This Crochet Pattern To Your Ravelry Favorites
 
Skill: Easy
 
Materials:
Crochet Hook – H / 5.00 MM
Yarn - Medium (4) Cotton 1 oz. of 2 colors of your choice (C1, C2)
Yarn Needle
 
Stitches:
Chain (ch)
Slip Stitch (slst)
Single Crochet (sc)
Double Crochet (dc)
Change To (chgto)
Back Loop Only (blo)
Skip (sk)
Space (sp)
 
Size: 4 X 6.5 Inches
 
Notes:
Ch3 Counts as a dc
 
How To Change Colors And Carry Your Yarn:
 
 A. -You will change Colors every 4th dc
Yo, pull through 1st 2 loops

B - Yo with your next color and pull through the last 2 loops
 

C - This gives you a neat and tidy color change.



 
Pattern:

R: 1 – With C1, ch 14, dc in the 4th ch from the hook,
1 dc in the next 2 chs,
Chg to C2, 1 dc in the next 4 chs,
Chgto C1, 1 dc in the last 4 chs, turn, (12 dc)
 

R: 2 – Chgto C2, ch3, 1 dc in the next 3 dc,
Chg to C1, 1 dc in the next 4 chs,
Chgto C2, 1 dc in the last 4 chs, turn, (12 dc)


R: 3 - Chgto C1, ch3, 1 dc in the next 3 dc,
Chg to C2, 1 dc in the next 4 chs,
Chgto C1, 1 dc in the last 4 chs, turn, (12 dc)


R: 4 - Chgto C2, ch3, 1 dc in the next 3 dc,
Chg to C1, 1 dc in the next 4 chs,
Chgto C2, 1 dc in the last 4 chs, turn, (12 dc)


R: 5 – R: 8 – Repeat R: 3 – R: 4, alternating rows
 
R: 9 – With C2, Turn, ch1, sc evenly on all 4 sides of the Mug rug,
Stitch a sc, ch1, sc in each of the 4 corners,
Join to the 1st sc with a slst,


R; 10 – Chgto to C1, cut off C2,
Working In the BLO,
Slst down the 1st side of the mug rug,
 
*slst, ch3, sk the next sc, sc in the next sc*
Repeat From * to * across the bottom of the mug rug,
 
Slst down the 2nd side of the mug rug,
 
*slst, ch3, sk the next sc, slst in the next sc*
Repeat From * to * across the top of the mug rug,
Join to the 1st slst, tie off, weave in your ends.

The American Flag Mug Rug is a fun and easy coaster
 to make. It can be made from either cotton, acrylic or 
any left over yarns.
It can be used for cups, mugs, glasses and cans, 
or whatever you are drinking from.

It is perfect for all the Patriotic Holidays.
Flag Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, and
Veteran's Day,
And any time you want to Celebrate America.

Make them with or without the fringe.
Have a party, or get together, stitch up a bunch of 
American Flag Mug Rugs with your left over yarn,
and give one to each of your guests to take 
home with them.

The pattern is basically rows of Single Crochet stitches,
 so you could actually make them any colors you choose
 for any occasion.

Stitches:
Chain (ch)
Single crochet (sc)
Change to (chgto)
 
Size: 6 X 4 Inches
 
Notes:
Ch 1 does Not count as a st
 
Pattern:

R: 1 – With Red yarn, ch 14, sc in the 2nd ch from the hook,
1 sc in each ch across, turn, ch 1 (13 sc)


R: 2 – 1 sc in each sc across, turn (13 sc)


R: 3 – Chgto White yarn, ch 1,
1 sc in each sc across, turn, ch 1 (13 sc)
 

R: 4 – 1 sc in each sc across, turn (13 sc)
 

R: 5 – Chgto to red yarn, ch 1,
1 sc in each sc across, turn, ch 1 (13 sc)
 
R: 6 – 1 sc in each sc across, turn (13 sc)


R: 7 – R: 8 – Repeat R: 3 - R: 4
 
R: 9 – R: 10 - Repeat R: 5 – R: 6
 
R: 11 – R: 12 – Repeat R: 3 – R: 4
 


R: 13 – Chgto to Blue Yarn, cut off Red and Blue yarn,
Ch1, 1 sc in each sc across, turn, ch 1 (13 sc)
 
R: 14 – 1 sc in each sc across, turn, ch 1 (13 sc)
 

R: 15 – R: 20 – Repeat R: 14
 


R: 21 – Chgto Gold yarn, ch1, sc across,
3 sc in the corner,
Turn working down the side of the mug rub, evenly sc down the side,
3 sc in the next corner, Evenly sc across the bottom, 3 sc in this corner,
Evenly sc up the last side. 3 sc, join to the 1st sc,
 tie off. Weave in all your ends.
 
With White yarn and needle, sew on a star.


Fringe:
Cut 30 pieces of gold yarn, 6 inches long
And attach them to the 2 short ends of the mug rug.
