Sock Monkey Mittens Crochet Pattern | Posh Pooch Designs

This was previously a paid pattern, 
But I decided to put it on my Blog for Free.
This pattern has 3 sizes and even if you do not want 
the Sock Monkey Style,
 It's a great basic mitten crochet pattern.

Sock Monkey Mittens Crochet Pattern 
Add This Crochet Pattern to Ravelry Favorites

Skill: Easy to Moderate (making the thumbs are a little tricky)

Materials:
Crochet Hook - I / 5.00 MM
1 inch button
Yarn needle
Yarn: WW (4) Vanna's Choice-Taupe mist for monkey brown (C1)
           Red, (C2) White (C3) & Black (C4) any Worsted Weight yarn

Stitches:
Chain (ch)
Double Crochet (dc)
Single Crochet (sc)
Double Crochet Decrease (dc dec) stitch 2 dc together.

Sizing: Small (Medium and large in parenthesis) 
Approximately Small is 5, Med. is 7 Large is  8 1/2 in. 
 These are approximate sizes and can be adjusted by hook size as well.

Ribbing:
R: 1 - With C2, ch 8 (9, 10) 1 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, 7(8, 9) sc, ch1, turn
R: 2 - 8 (9, 10) sc in the back loops, ch 1 turn
R: 3 – R: 20 (22, 24)        Repeat R: 2

Put the two short ends together and sc the ends closed to form a ring of ribbing,

Hand:
R: 1 - With C3, attach to the ribbing and sc around the upper edge
 of the ribbing for 20 (22, 24) sc, join, ch 1

R: 2 - 1 sc in each sc, join,

R: 3 - Change to C1, dc in the first 7 (8, 9) sts, 2 dc in the next st, 
1 dc in the next 7 (8, 9) sts, dc in the rest of the sts, join, ch 2

R: 4 - 2dc in the first st, 1 dc in the next 8 (9, 10) sts, 2 dc in the next st, 
1 dc in each st remaining, join, ch 2

R: 5 (Skip R: 5 for size small) 2 dc in the first st, 1 dc in the next 10 (11) sts, 
2 dc in the next st, finish dc around, join

Thumb Opening:

R: 6 - Ch 2, dc in first 9 (10, 11) sts, ch 2m skip next 6 (7, 8) 
sts, dc in the last sts around, join, ch 2

R: 7 - 1 dc in each dc and ch around, join, ch 2

R: 8 - 1 dc dec, 1 dc in each dc, 1 dc dec with the last 2 dcs, join, ch 2

 R: 9 - (Skip R: 9 for size Small) 1 dc in each dc around for both
 M and L, join, ch 2

R: 10 -Change to C 3, 1 dc in each dc, around, join, ch 1

R: 11 - (Skip this row for size small) 1 dc in each for M and L, join, ch 2

R: 12 - 1 dc dec, 1 dc in each dc, 1 dc dec with the last two sts, join, ch 2

R: 13 – R: 14 - 1 dc dec.  1 dc in each dc, 1 dc dec with the last two sts, join

Sew opening in the end of the mitten closed from the inside of mitten.

Forming the Thumbs:

R: 1- With the right side of the Mitten out, attach C1 to thumb opening 
and dc in each dc, and sc in the skipped chs around, join, ch 2

R: 2 - dc in each dc, sc in each sc, join, ch 2

R: 3 - dc in each dc, join, ch 2

R: 4 - (Skip this row for size small) dc in each dc, join, ch 2 for m & L sizes, Ch2

R: 5 - 1 dc dec, dc in rest of sts, join, cut off leaving a tail of yarn for closing thumb hole. 
Pull thread to inside of mitten, sew hole closed securely and tie off.

 That's it For The Basic Mitten Pattern 


The Sock Monkey Features.

Ears: make 2 for each mitten
 With taupe yarn, ch 3 in the 2nd ch from the end make 6 sc, join, ch1,
2sc in each sc around, join and tie off. Place on the sides of the mitten 
and sew on with
Matching yarn.

Eyes: make 2 for each mitten
 With black yarn, ch 3 in the 2nd ch from the end make 6 sc, join, 
making sure to close the hole in the center of the eye. 
Place on the front of the face and sew in place with matching yarn.

Mouth: make one for each mitten
With White yarn, ch 7, sc all the way around both sides of the 
chain to form an oval shape, fasten off, set a side.

With  Red yarn, ch 5, sc all the way around to form another oval,
 sew on top of the white oval, then place and sew on the front of the monkey's face.

Pom pom: make one for each mitten
 With Red yarn, Wrap around your three middle fingers about 30 or 35 times. 
Cut an 8 inch piece of matching yarn, and slip it through all the loops and tie very
 tightly. Clip all the loops and trim evenly. Use the two long yarn pieces to secure
 onto the top of the hat.

Skill: Easy

Materials:
Toilet Paper Roll
Crochet Hook - H / 5.00 MM
Yarn Needle
Yarn: Worsted Weight (4) 3 oz. of each
          I Used Vanna's Choice -Taupe Mist, Red, White and Black

Stitches:
Chain (ch)
Slip Stitch (slst)
Single Crochet (sc)
Double Crochet (dc)
Back Loop Only (blo)

Notes:
Ch 3 counts as a dc
Rows are joined with a slst to the top of ch 3.
When Changing colors, ch 3 after the color change


R : 1 - With white yar, Ch 5, form into a circle, Ch3,
9 dc in the circle,  join, ch 3
(10 dc)

R : 2 - 2 dc in each dc, around, join, ch 3 (20 dc)

R : 3 - Repeat R : 2 (40 dc)

R: 4 - 1 dc in the same st as the ch 3, * 1 dc in the next st, 
*2 dc in the next st, 1 dc in the next 2 dc*
 repeat from *to* around, join, ch 3 (54 dc)

R : 5 - Working in the back loops, (this row only)
1 dc in each dc, join, ch 3 (54dc)

R : 6 -  1 dc in each dc, join, ch 3, (54 dc)

R : 7 - Change to brown yarn, 1 dc in each dc, join, ch 3 (54 dc)

R : 8-10 - 1 dc in each dc, join, ch 3 (54 dc)

R : 11 - Change to red yarn, ch3, 1 dc in each dc, join (54 dc)

R : 12 - Change to white yarn, ch 3, 1 sc in each dc, join, tie off (54 sc)

Ears: make 2
With C1, ch 2, 6 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, join in a circle, ch1, (6sc)

2sc in each sc around, join and tie off leave a 18 inch tail of yarn
 for sewing onto bib. (12sc)

Place one on each the side of the head and sew on  

with tail of yarn and needle.

Eyes: make 2
With black yarn, ch 2 in the 2nd ch from the end make 8 sc, join,
tie off leaving about an 18 inch tail of yarn.

making sure to close the hole in the center of the eye. 
Place on the front of the face and sew in place with the tail of yarn.

Mouth:
With Red, ch 9, 1 sc in 2nd ch from the hook, 1 sc in the next 7 chs, 
turn down the opposite side of the ch, 1 sc in next 8 chs,  join.  (16sc)

Change to white yarn,  2 sc in the 1st sc, 
1 sc in the next 6 sc and 2 sc in the last sc,
 2c in the next sc, 1 sc in the next 6 sc, 2 sc in the last sc,
 join and tie off leaving an 18 inch tail of yarn.
 Place on the front of the monkey and sew in place. (20sc)

Pom pom :
With Red yarn, Wrap around your three middle fingers 
about 30 or 35 times. 
Cut an 12 inch piece of matching yarn, 
and slip it through all the loops and tie very tightly. 

Clip all the loops and trim evenly.
 Use the two long yarn pieces to secure to the top of the TP cover.

Sock Monkey Purse or Lunch Bag Crochet Pattern

Make it in Traditional Color or have fun with the colors
This Bag measures about 5 X 7 inches, not counting the handle. It's the perfect size for a reusable lunch bag.

I bed if you brought your lunch to work in this bag, not one would steal it!
These 2 yarns are my favorite for making Anything
 Sock Monkey. The Vanna's Choice is my first choice, 
but the I Love This yarn is a good choice as well.

Sock Monkey Purse Or Lunch Bag Crochet Pattern

Skill: Easy

Materials:
Crochet Hook -  H / 5.00 MM
Worsted Weight Yarn (4)
          Vanna’s choice - taupe mist for brown of monkey 3 oz. -C1
           Red - C2, White - C3 and Black 1 oz. each - C4
1.5 inch button of choice

Stitches:
Chain (ch)
Single Crochet (sc)
Double Crochet (dc)
Half Double Crochet (hdc)
Change to (chgto)

Size:  5 X 7 Inches not counting the handle

Notes:
Ch1 Does not count as a st
Ch3 does count as a dc
Rounds are joined with a Slip stitch 
When changing colors ch1/ Ch3 after the color changes

Purse:
R: 1 - With C3, ch 19, * 2 hdc in 2nd ch from the hook,
 1 hdc in 16 chs, 2 hdc in the last ch*, turn,
 working down opposite side of ch, repeat from*to*, join
(20 + 20 = 40hdc)

R: 2 - Chto C2, ch1, 1 hdc in each hdc around, join,  (40hdc)

R: 3 - Chgto C1, ch1, 1 hdc in each hdc, join, ch 3 (40hdc)

R: 4 - 1 dc in each dc, join, ch 3 (40dc)

R: 5 – R: 9 -1 dc in each dc, join,  (40dc)

R: 10-Chgto C3, ch3, 1 dc in each dc, join, ch 3 (40dc)

R: 11 - 1 dc in each dc, join, ch 3 (40dc)

R: 12 - 1 dc in each dc, join, ch 3 (40dc)

R: 13 repeat R: 12, join, ch1 (40dc)

R: 14 - 1 sc in each dc, join, tie off ( 40sc)

Strap-
Attach red yarn to the right side of the purse edge, 
ch 25 (or more if a longer handle is desired) 
attach the ch to opposite side of the purse with a sc, 
sc back down the strap to the opposite side. Join and tie off.

Button Tab:
R: 1 with white yarn, ch 6, 1 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook,
 1 sc in each ch, turn, ch1 (5sc)

R: 2 - 1 sc in 1st 2 sc, ch1, skip one st (for button hole) 1 sc in the next 2 sc,
 ch1, turn (2sc, ch1, 2sc)

R: 3 - 1 sc in each sc and ch, ch1 turn (5sc)

R: 4 -1sc in each sc, ch1, turn (5sc)

R: 5 – R: 7 - Repeat R: 4, tie off and 
Sew to the center of the back edge of the bag.
Sew button in place on front of the bag.

Ears: make 2

With C1, ch 2, 6 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, join in a circle, ch1, (6sc)

2sc in each sc around, join and tie off leave a 18 inch tail of yarn
 for sewing onto bib. (12sc)

Place one on each the side of the head and sew on  with tail of yarn and needle.

Sock Monkey Baby Bib Crochet Pattern By Sara Sach

Skill: Easy

Materials:
Crochet Hook - H / 5.00MM
Yarn needle
Yarn: Worsted Weight (4) I Used Vanna's Choice-Taupe mist for monkey brown (C1) 2oz)
           1 oz. each of Red, (C2) White (C3) & Black (C4) any Worsted Weight yarn

Stitches:
Chain (ch)
Single Crochet (sc)
Half Double Crochet (hdc)
Half Double Crochet Decrease (hdc dec)

Bib Size: approximately 10 X 10 inches, not counting the length of the ties.

Notes:
Ch1 does not count as a st.
When changing color, chain 1 after the color change.

Pattern:
R: 1 - With C1, Ch 18, 1 hdc in the 2nd ch from the hook, 1 hdc in the next 16 chs, ch1, turn
(17hdc)

R: 2 - 2 hdc in the 1st hdc, 1 hdc in the next 15 hdc, 2 hdc in the last hdc, ch1, turn
(19hdc)

R: 3 - 2 hdc in the first hdc, 1 hdc in the next 17 hdc, 2 hdc in the last hdc, ch1, turn
(21 hdc)

R: 4 -1 hdc in each hdc, ch1, turn (21hdc)

A Sock Monkey Hat For Me!

I have made many Sock Monkey items,
but nothing for me.
So I decided to find a
Sock Monkey Crochet Pattern
and make one.

 I started my search for a Pattern
on Ravelry.com and
was willing to purchase one,

When I came across this
Sock Monkey Hat
Free pattern .

I Love the pattern and
 I like how it is written -
Easy to understand.
So here is my Hat:
I know, I know, my dog's are
 better models then I am.
But isn't this a darling Sock Monkey Hat.

Any way, I just had to share this pattern,
it is a great pattern and it is free!
