Blanket Stitch:
The Blanket
Stitch is a Quilting technique, and how we will
hem the
fleece and make “loops” for stitching the crochet trim.
Fold and pen
a hem around the edge of your blanket / fleece.
Tie
a small knot in the end of the yarn.
Slip
the needle in the folded end of the
Pinned
Blanket hem with the right side facing you.
Sew
a 1/4 Inch stitch across the top, to start.
Push
the needle through the end of the blanket
at
the next 1/4 inch, loop the yarn under the needle,
to
form a loop, then pull gently.
These loops are were we will stitch our crochet stitches.
Continue
to use your ruler to measure,
and sew a stitch each 1/4 inch,
Do
not pull your loops too tight.
The
loops made by this stitch row will be
where we place out
crochet stitches.
Continue
this on all 4 sides of the blanket.
You
will need to add yarn as it runs out.
Weave in all the ends securely and tie off.
Let's Crochet:
To
Begin Our Crochet Row,
Push
Your hook through the first loop on the right end,
and
pull up a loop, ch 1
Then
stitch 1 single crochet in each of the loops around.
This
will form a foundation row.
The
number of sc stitches will be different
depending on the size of your blanket.
this is help the sc lay nicely around the corner.
Join to the 1st sc with a slst, ch1
*sc in the 1st sc, ch 2, sk 2 sc, 3 dc in the next sc, ch2, sk 2 sc*
Repeat From * to * around the Blanket edge, join to the
1st sc with a slst, tie off and weave in your ends.
the row may not come out evenly. You will need to adjust at the last few
stitches to even it up.
