We Are So Spiffy!

It's Friday Fun Day And what a great way to have
 fun on a Friday than to stitch up 
The Spiffy Chicken and Turkey Pot Holder.
And even make them into a Stuffie Pillow!
They were so fun to design and stitch up.


I was designing the Spiffy Chicken And thought, 
This would make a great Spiffy Turkey too!
 And then I thought, what a fun and silly pillow!
And So , The Spiffy Chicken And Turkey Pot Holder,
And Stuffie Pillow all combined into 
one fun crochet pattern.
They are great for Chicken People, 
and great for Thanksgiving, too.

Skill: Easy
Materials:
Crochet Hook – H / 5.00 mm.
Yarn – Med (4) Acrylic or Cotton – Small Amount of  orange, black, white
             For Chicken – Cream – 2 oz,  Red .5 oz.
             For Turkey – Light Brown – 1.5 oz., Fall Variegated - 1 oz.
Yarn Needle
Stuffing For a Softie / Stuffie
 
Stitches:
Chain (ch)
Slip Stitch (slst)
Single Crochet (sc)
Half Double Crochet (hdc)
Double Crochet (dc)
Skip (sk)
Space (sp)
Double Crochet Together (dctog) decrease
Change to (chgto)
 
Size: 9 X11 inches
 
Notes:
Ch1 Does Not Count as a st
Ch3 counts as a dc
 
Pattern:

Chicken Body – Make 2 Front And Back
The Body is crocheted the same Chicken And the Turkey
Chicken – Cream
Turkey – Light Brown
 
R: 1 – Ch 17, dc in the 4th ch from the hook,
dc in each ch across, turn, ch 3 (15 dc)


R: 2 – DC in the 1st dc, 1 dc in the next 13 dc,
2 dc in the last dc, turn, ch 3 (17 dc)
 
R: 3 - DC in the 1st dc, 1 dc in the next 15 dc,
2 dc in the last dc, turn, ch 3 (19 dc)


R: 4 - DC in the 1st dc, 1 dc in the next 17 dc,
2 dc in the last dc, turn, ch 3 (21 dc)
 
R: 5 - DC in the 1st dc, 1 dc in the next 19 dc,
2 dc in the last dc, turn, ch 3 (23 dc)



R: 6 – 1 dc in each dc across, turn, ch 3 (23 dc)
 
R: 7 – R: 11 – Repeat R: 6
Ch1 only after R: 11


R: 12 – Dctog the 1st 3 dc, 1 dc in the next 19 dc,
Dctog the last 2 dc, turn, ch 1 (21 dc)


R: 13 - Dctog the 1st 3 dc, 1 dc in the next 17 dc,
Dctog the last 2 dc, turn, ch 1 (19 dc)
 
R: 14 - Dctog the 1st 3 dc, 1 dc in the next 15 dc,
Dctog the last 2 dc, turn, ch 1 (17 dc)


R: 15 - Dctog the 1st 3 dc, 1 dc in the next 13 dc,
Dctog the last 2 dc, turn, ch 1 (15 dc)
 
R: 16 - Dctog the 1st 3 dc, 1 dc in the next 11 dc,
Dctog the last 2 dc, tie off weave in your ends. (13 dc)


Repeat R: 1 - R: 16
For A Front and a Back.


If Making a Softie pillow be careful
 not to attach eyes and beak,
 only sew through the top layer.
 
Place the 2 ovals together, right sides facing out,
Join matching yarn to the right side at the bottom of R: 9,
Evenly sc around, sewing the 2 pieces together,
Join to the 1st sc with a slst.


If making a softie pillow, leave an opening for stuffing
 
R: 18 – Feathers
For Chicken do not change colors,
For Turkey Chgto Variegated yarn
 
Sc in the 1st sc,
*sk the next sc, 2dc, ch1, 2dc in the next sc,
 sk the next sc, sc in the next sc, *
Repeat From * to * 2 more times
 
For Chicken Chgto to red yarn,
                do not cut yarn when changing colors, carry it across.
 
For Turkey Do not change colors
Repeat From * to * 3 more times,

Make sure the 3 shell stitches are center on top of the head.
 
For Chicken Chgto to cream
For Turkey Do not change colors
Repeat From * to * 3 more times,
Turn working back across the shell stitches,


R: 19 – *Ch1, 5 dc in the ch1 sp, ch1, sc in the next sc*
Repeat From * to * 8 times changing colors as needed
 for the Chicken, tie off weave your ends.




Eyes: Make 2
With White yarn, ch 2, 6 sc in the 2nc 
ch from the hook, join, ch1 (6sc)
2 sc in each sc around, join to the sc 
with a slst, (12sc) tie off leaving a
 9 inch tai of yarn for sewing in place.
 
With Black yarn add a French on to the eye.
 
Place on the Hot Pad and sew in place.

 
Beak:
R: 1 - With orange yarn, ch 2, 2 sc in the 2nd ch 
from the hook, ch1, turn (2sc)
 
R: 2 - 2 sc in the each sc, ch 1, turn (4 sc)
 
R: 3 - 2 sc in the 1st sc, 1 sc in the next 2 sc, 
2 sc in the last sc, ch1, turn (6sc)
 
 sc evenly down the side of the beak, sc, ch1, sc  in the point of the beak, 
sc evenly up the side of the beak,
 Join to the 1st sc, tie off leaving a 12 inch tail of yarn.
Weave in your ends and sew the beak onto the front of the Hot Pad
 
Feet –
*Ch 5, slst in the 2nd ch from the hook, slst in the next ch,
slst in the 2nd ch from the hook, and in the next 2 chs*
Repeat 1 times, slst in the next sc,
Repeat From * to * 2 more times, join, tie off weave in Your ends.


Turkey Wattle -
With red yarn, ch 7, turn,
slst in the next 2 chs, sc in the next 2 chs, hdc in the last 2 chs, tie off.
 attach to the side of the turkey beak.

Stuff and Close opening if making a Stuffie pillow.
