Cord Dog Collar and Leash Free Crochet Pattern

I was walking through Hobby Lobby and

The Bright Pink of the Craft Cord caught my eye!

"Wow! 
That would make a great collar

and leash set", I thought.

And it did!

Rosie Modeling her Bright Pink Set.

So, I wrote the Pattern down,

 so I could share it with you.

Skill - Super Easy

The Craft cord does have a little stretch, so it makes for a very comfy collar.

Materials:
Crochet Hook- H and F
50 yards ( approx. depending on dog's neck size) craft cord
Leash clip
Collar clip
Small D-ring
Tape measure to measure your dog's neck.

Stitches:
Chain (ch)
Single Crochet (sc)
Slip Stitch ( sl st)

Notes:
Ch1 does not count as a st.
Use F hook for attaching yarn to the clip and D ring.
Use H hook for the rest of the collar and leach.

Collar : Measure your dogs neck first. Attach cord to the left side
 of the collar clip with a sl st, st 2 sc going through the collar clip, ch 1 turn.

R : With the F hook, 1 - 3 sc, ch 1 turn
R : Change to the H hook, 2 - repeat R:1
R : 3 - 3 sc going through the flat side of the D-ring, ch 1, turn

R : 4 - Repeat R : 1

R : 5 - 25 - Repeat R :1 ( as many rows as needed for your dog's neck measurement).

R : 3 sc going through the right side of the Collar clip, tie off, and weave in ends of cord.


Leash:

R : 1 - Ch 4, 3 sc, ch 1 turn

R : 2 - 1 sc in each sc, ch 1, turn

R : 3-33 - Repeat R : 2

R : 34 - ( Forming the Handle) Fold over the ends to meet, going through both ends, 3 sc,

ch1, turn.

R : 35-134 ( or longer , if needed for your dog) Repeat R : 2

R : 135 - Attach Leash hook by stitching 3 sc through the hook, toe off weave in ends.

Isn't it Cool!

 for Dogs, Cats, Bunnies and Humans!

I decided to call this collar design

 "Hugs and Kisses" because of the back post

 "crosses" and "holes" in the pattern of collar. 

I wanted to make something pretty and fun for my dogs,

 as well, as learn a new technique. I really enjoyed 

designing this piece and how you will too.

Skill : Easy to moderate (for the front and back post tr)

Materials:
Hook : H
Yarn -Worsted Weight ( I used the Dazzle Yarn, it has a sparkly affect)
2 buttons

Stitches:
Chain (ch)
Double crochet (dc)
Front Post Treble Crochet (ftc)
Back Post Treble crochet (btc)

This pattern is for 10 inch neck, you will need to measure
 your dog's neck and adjust the pattern, (3 chs = 1 inch).

R : 1 - Ch 31 with first color( for a 10 inch collar)
 30 dc starting in the 2nd ch from the
hook, ch 2, turn

R : 2 - Change to second color, 1 dc in the first st,
 *skip the next st, tr in the back post of the next st, cross back
 and tr in the back post of the skipped st. dc in the next 3 sts, ch1,
skip the next st, 1 dc in the next 3 sts,
 repeat from * two more times, 1 dc in the last 6 sts, ch2 turn.

R : 3 - *1 dc in the first 6 sts, tr in the front post of the cross, cross back
 and tr in the front post of the crossed st, 1 dc in next 3 dc, ch1, skip the next st,
 1 dc in the next 3 sts, repeat from * 2 more times, 1 dc in the last 3 dc, turn

R : 4 : Change back to first color, 1 dc in each st, tie off and weave in ends.

Buttons:

Line up the ends of the Collar and sew buttons in place with matching yarn.
Fold Collar in half and gently push buttons through the collar.

I made them red for Valentines Day

and pink, white  or black would work for  Easter...

Great for a Doggie Wedding or Birthday party! 

Oh!  the possibilities!

Skill : Super Easy

Materials :
Hook : H
Yarn needle
Yarn; Worsted weight

Stitches:
Chain (ch)
Single crochet (sc)
Half Double Crochet (hdc)

Bow tie Slide:

Chain 31 with Red yarn - 12 inch dog neck
( 3 chs = 1 inch, add more chs to make it larger)

R: 1 - 1 hdc in 2nd ch from the hook, 29 more hdc, ch1 turn

R: 2-3 - 30 hdc, ch1, turn

R: 4 - 30 hdc, tie off, leaving a 12 inch tail of yarn

Put the ends of the bow tie together, and using the yarn tail sew them,
weave in the end.

Center of the Bow:
Ch 10 with white yarn

R: 1 - 9 sc, ch1, turn

R: 2 - 9 sc, and then tie off leaving a 8 inch tail for yarn

Wrap the center piece around the center of the bow tie,
and sew the ends together, tight enough to hold,
but loose enough to be able to slide the collar through the back.

Slide it right on your pets collar.

Matching Cuffs: make 2

Ch 15, with white yarn
 (you can measure your dogs leg and adjust the amount of chains)

R: 1 - 1 hdc in 2nd ch from the hook, 13 hdc, ch1 turn

R: 2-3 - 14 hdc, ch1, turn

R: 4 - 14 hdc, ch 3 sc, 3 times on the end of the cuff, at the corner ch 3,
 skip next st, sc in the next st, * ch3 skip the next st, sc in the next st,
 repeat from* across cuff, at the corner, ch 3 sc three times down
 the end of the cuff, then tie off and weave in the end.

Button: make 2 (You can use a real button or a crochet button)


Ch 3, with red yarn, 8 hdc in the 2nd ch from the End,
join tie off leaving a 8 inch tail of yarn to sew the button with.
Be sure to close the hole in the center of the button,
Then fold the cuff in half, and sew button on,
going through both of the cuff sides.

Fnished Bow tie  and Matching Cuffs..

Many Friends , Family and Customers

 have been asking for Dog Booties or 

dog bootie crochet patterns. 

Not boots, but little booties to keep 

their little paws warm in the house on 

winter days. 

 I thought a lot about it, and took a good

 look at my dogs paws.....

Maximo, his paws and his booties.

Maximo's Paws are very tiny, aren't they cute!

 so I wanted the booties to fit snug but not be tight.

 I also wanted them to be size adjustable.

Before you start , measure up your dog's legs,

 front and back leg measurements may be

 different depending on breed of dog, as well. 

You determine how tall you want them.

 I experimented with different lengths on Maximo

 to see what was more comfortable.

Dog Bootie Crochet Pattern By Sara Sach

Materials:
Crochet Hook : H
Yarn : Worsted Weight (4)I used "I love This yarn" Navy blue and Variegated.
Yarn needle
Puffy paint to make the slip free sole.

Stitches:
Chain (ch)
Slip Stitch (slst)
Single crochet (sc)
Half Double Crochet (hdc)
Skip (sk)
Space(sp)

Sizing:  XXS - M ( 2-20 lb dogs)

Notes: Make 4
Ch 1  does not count as a st.

R: 1 - With solid color, Ch 3 , in second ch from the hook,
6 sc, join in a circle, ch 1

R: 2 - 2 sc in each st around, ch1

( Skip to R: 4 for xxs-xs, 2-5 lb dogs, approx.)

R: 3 -( for S- M, 6-12 lb dogs, approx) 2 sc in first st,
 1 sc in the next st, repeat around, join , ch 1

R: 4 - 1 hdc in each st, join ch 1

R: 5-8 - Repeat R : 4

R: 9 - Change to color 2 - variegated, * 1 hdc in the first st,
 ch1, sk the next st, repeat from * around, join, ch 1

R: 10 - 1 hdc in each st and ch sp, join, ch 1

R: 11 - 1 hdc in each st, join, ch 1

R: 12 - 1 hdc in each st, join, tie off.

Ties: Ch 55, cut yarn. tie a knot at each end and
 lace through bootie at row 9 and tie a bow in the front.

Remember to make 4 booties!

As I was designing this collar I wanted something that said "Winter"!

When I think of Winter, I think of snuggling in

 a warm granny square crochet blanket,  

hats with pom poms, snowflakes floating down, 

and snow that glitters like gems.  So I made a tiny, sort of,

  crochet blanket, tied pom poms on, attached snow flakes and gems that glitter all on one collar!!!  

A really "Cool" thing about this pattern, 

is that it is easily made into a headband, as well,

 just be adding some length to it.  

You and your pooch could wear matching bands. 

Wouldn't that be fun? !

Crochet Hooks:H for collar, F for Snowflakes
3 silver gems
I Love This Yarn - White Sparkle
Red Heart Silver crochet Thread


Stitches:
Chain (c)
Picot (pc)
Single Crochet (sc)
Half Double Crochet (hdc)

Collar: use Hook : H
R : 1 - With White Sparkle yarn, ch 33, 1 sc in the second ch from the hook,
1 sc in each ch. ch1, turn

R : 2 - 1 hdc in the first 2 sts, ch2, skip the next 2 sts, *1 hdc in the next 2 sts,
 ch 2, skip the next 2 sts, , repeat from * across row, ch2, turn

R : 3 - Ch 2 ( again) skip first two sts, *1 hdc in the next 2 sts, ch 2, skip next 2 sts,
repeat from * across row, ch 2, turn


R : 4 - 2 hdc in the ch 2 space, ch 2, skip 2 sts, repeat across row, ch 2 , turn

R - 5 : 1 sc in each st and ch across row, do not tie off.

Follow this pattern around all four sides of the collar,
 (*sc ch3, skip 2 sts, sc) for an edging.

Ties:
ch 55 and cut yarn, tie a knot in each end and lace through the middle of both ends of the collar.

Pom poms : Wrap one strand of each yarn around your three middle fingers 25-30 times, lace another piece of matching yarn through the hole and tie very tightly, attach to end of tie with another very tight knot. make one for the other end also.


Snowflake Applique: Use hook : F
R : 1- Ch 3, 6 sc in the second ch from the hook, join, ch 1

R : 2 - sc, ch 1, in each st around, join, ch 1

R : 3 - ( sc, picot, sc) in each 1 ch "space", join, leave a 8 inch tail of thread to sew snowflake on to collar.

Gems: use fabric glue or Hot glue to fasten one gem to the center of each snowflake.

Please Remember this collar is for decorative purposes only,
do not attach your leash or lead to it, it is not strong enough, even on the itty bitty dogs.

How I Design a Crochet Pattern &

A Free Leg Warmers for Dogs Crochet Pattern.

Many people have asked me how I come up with all 

my fun and sometimes crazy ideas for Dog apparel. 

Sometime I get suggestions, and sometime I have 

 ideas swimming around  inside my head.   

When I decide on a specific idea, I usually

 draw a very rough picture.

 In this blog we are going to Design Leg Warmers for:

Maximo and Rosie..The world's Cutest Dog Models!!!!

I am a visual learner, some would say "an artist", 

but looking at that drawing, no one would say that now. 

But anyway, I need to see it on paper to see
 what I want to create. 

As you can see I also take a few measurements.

 I then decide what stitches I want to use. 

Since these are very small, 
I decided to use Single Crochet. 

I want them to be stretchy so I  am going
 to stitch the rows Vertically.

I begin with a chain, and from there design the pattern.

 I write down the pattern in the notebook as I go. 

This way I can change it,  

and make marks and ideas, about the pattern as I go.

It probably looks like Scribbles to you,

 but it makes perfect sense to me ( most of the time).

I always measure, over and over again. Crocheting

can be tricky and I want my finished project to fit.

Pattern for Dog Leg Warmers:

Skill : Extremely Easy

Materials :
Hook - H
Yarn - Worsted Weight Yarn (4)Small Amount
 (I used Assorted Red Heart Yarns I already had)
Yarn Needle

Stitches :
Chain (ch)
Slip Stitch (slst)
Single Crochet (sc)
Back Loop Only (BLO)

Sizing: 3. 5 X 3 inches approximately
The Pattern can be adjusted to fit any size dog.

Gauge: 3 chs = 1 inch, 2 rows = 1 inch

Notes:
Ch1 does not count as a stitch.
We will be stitching through the back looponly in order to
 give the leg warmers a ribbed look.

Depending on what kind of yarn and how tight you crochet
will determine fit. You will need to measure your dogs front legs.

R - 1 : Ch 13, starting in the second ch, 12 sc, turn ch 1

R - 2 : 12 sc, turn, ch 1

R - 3 - 12 : Repeat R- 2

R - 13 :  Fold leg warmer in half to form a tube,
 and slst evenly up the side to close the tube.

 R - 14 : Change to a different color if you like.
 Sc evenly around the top to form an edge. join to 1st sc, and tie off.
Weave in all your ends.

The color choices and trims are endless!
