Lace Ruffle Scarves - How to Knit and Crochet them.

I Love The Lace Ruffle Scarves!

A Friend asked me the other day, 
"Do you Knit or Crochet your Lace Scarves"?

I have Crocheted some and I have Knit some.
Let's compare the 2 techniques.

The Lime Green Scarf is Crochet.

It works up fast, and is a lot easier then knitting,

and it does end up being a lot longer scarf.

But mine have broken with very little wear.

And are not as ruffly as I would like. 
I have been known to whip one up 
at the last minute to go with an outfit.

How to Crochet A Lace Ruffle Scarf.

And

The Black and White scarf is Knit.

There is clearly a difference.

The knit scarf is thicker and fuller 

and I also found that knitting them,

 makes them hold up longer.

And have twice as many ruffles.
To knit one it takes me about 1 1/2 hours.
But well worth the extra time spent.

How I Knit The Lace Ruffle Scarves:

Skill: Easy

Materials:

Knitting needles - US13 -9.0mm

The Truth is you can use any knitting needles, 

as long as they fit through the loops on the yarn.

1 skein of your choice of any Lace Ruffle yarn

Stitches:

Knit (k)

Cast On (CO)

Skip (sk)

Bind Off (BO)

CO By putting the first loop on your needle, 

*sk the next 2 loops, put the next loop on the needle*,

Repeat From * to *  4 more times for 6 loops on your needle.

 To K the next row - *k the next loop, *sk the next 2 loops*,

Repeat From * to *  5 more times

Continue this technique till you reach  length desired.
I knit tilll there is about 10 inches left of the skein.

Bo,  then either tie a knot or
tie the 2 ends together for an infinity scarf.
I prefer an infinity scarf, so it does not get lost.

If you want a more Ruffly scarf, 

you can skip more then 2 loops, between k sts.

I do still crochet them sometimes, 

But I really do prefer to knit them.

So pick up those knitting needles

 and make yourself some lovely scarves.

Quick To Stitch Knit Coffee Cozy - Free Knitting Pattern

I use these daily.

I need several because I am

sort of a klutz.

I spill things, sometimes.

okay, often. 

So I made a few cozies from 

Worsted weight Acrylic yarn.

then I thought, 

I wonder if I can make some out 

of cotton yarn?"

I did, and I love the cotton ones,

 even more then the acrylic ones.

These are not only easy, but super quick to stitch up.

Quick to Stitch Coffee Cozy Knitting Pattern

Skill: Easy

Materials:

Straight Knitting Needles - US10 - 6mm

Yarn - Small Amount of Any Worsted weight or cotton yarn ( 4)

Yarn needle

Stitches -

Cast on ( CO)

 knit (k)

Purl (p)

Bind Off ( BO)

Size - 2 sizes -

3.5 and  4.5 tall and 8 inches around.

Gauge- 4 X 4 = 1 inch

Pattern: CO 26

R : 1 -  k all sts

R : 2 -6  - Repeat R :1

R : 7 -Change to next color, k all sts

R : 7 - Purl all sts

R : 8-15 - Repeat R:7 and R:8 ( stockinette st)

(skip to R : 22 for 3.5 inch cozy)

R: 16-21- Continue Stockinette St  for the 4.5 inch cozy

R : 22- Change color, We will finish with 2 x 2 ribbing:
*k2, p2* Repeat From * to * across row

R : 23-25  - Repeat R: 22

R : 26 - BO continuing the k2, p2 pattern.

Match up the ends, in a tube and sew closed.

Now just slip it on your coffee cup and head out the door!

 project to practice your knitting skills

 and have a useful item you can use.

Pattern : Mobius Scarf Crochet Pattern

Skill - easy

Materials:

 Hook: J

Yarn : Worsted Weight Yarn (4) about 4 oz.

I used : I Love This Yarn - Surprise Stripe

Sizes : Adult & Youth (very easy to modify for even smaller sizes)

measures about 54 inches

 Stitches:

Chain (ch)

Single Crochet ( sc)

Half Double Crochet (hdc)

Double Crochet (dc)

Ch 120 for adult size ( 95 youth)

R -1 : From the 2nd ch from the hook, sc in each chain across.

 Lay chain out on a flat surface, in a circle, join top ch to bottom ch,

 Make sure there is only one twist in the circle.

 There will be a opening, we will close that up on the next round.

R-2 : 1 sc in each st, when stitching the rounds,

 it will seem as though 2 rounds are stitched, 

because you are stitching all the way back around

 where you started the round, join, ch 3 ( counts as 1 dc on next row)

In this example, it appears that 3 rows have been stitched but really only two,

 This is how the mobius scarf is worked. And it gives it a wonderful elegant look.

 R- 3 : (Cross Stitch round)  Skip the first st, dc in the second st, 

cross back in front and dc in the skipped st.  

* Skip the next st, dc in the next st, cross back in front and dc in the skipped st*,

 Repeat from * to * all the way around scarf, stitching back to where the round

 was started. (It will appear as if two rounds of Cross stitches we stitched) 

join to the ch 3 at the beginning of row, ch2( counts as 1st hdc in the next row)

R- 4 : 1 Hdc in each st around, join ch 1

R- 5 : Repeat R- 4

R- 6 : Repeat R - 3 ( cross stitch round)

R - 7 : Repeat  R- 4

R - 8 : Repeat R - 4  ( Stop here for youth size, and tie off).

R - 9 : Repeat  R - 3 ( cross stitch round)

R  - 10 : Repeat R - 4

R - 11 : Repeat R - 4, tie off, work in end.

I really like how this scarf worked up.

I think it looks great with the gloves.

Both are warm and comfy!

Do you call them texting gloves, phone gloves, wristlettes, 
wrist warmers or fingerless gloves?
Maybe we should call them Crochet or Knitting Gloves?

Whatever you call them, they are very warm to wear 

and are also, very good to have around.

We were without Heat for a couple of days and I wore mine

 all day long and was still able to do most of the things 
I needed to do. Except the dishes. I was okay with that!

Materials:

Hook - I / 5.25

Yarn - Worsted Weight yarn (4) About 3 oz

             I used Red Heart Super Saver - Blue Fleck
Yarn Needle
Tape Measure

Stitches :

Slip stitch (sl st)

Chain (ch)

Single Crochet (sc)

Half Double Crochet (hdc)

Back Loops Only (blo)

Sizes: Approximately - Med. But easily  adjusted
Cuff - 8 inches around, Hand Portion - 4 inches -Glove - 7.5 inches in length
1.5 rows = 1 inch (cuff) 2 rows = 1 inch (Hand portion)

Gloves - Make 2 - These gloves are neither left or right handed, they fit either hand.

Ribbed Cuff:
The Cuff measures about 4 inches, if you want it longer,
just add more chs at the beginning ch.

Ch 1 at end of rows does not count as a st, it is a turning ch.

R: 1 -  Ch 13, 1 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and in each ch across, 

ch 1, turn ( 12 sc)

R: 2 - Blo 1 sc in each sc, ch 1 turn.

R: 3 - R: 26 - Repeat R: 2

Line up the back and the front of the cuff to form a tube,

 sc closed, do not cut yarn.

Forming the Glove:

Notes:
Ch3 at ends of rows counts as  dc
Ch1 at ends of Rows does not counts as a st
Join rounds with a slst

R: 27 - On the top of the cuff, evenly space 27 sc around, join, ch 3

R: 28 - 1 dc in each st, join, ch 1

R: 29 - 1 sc in each st, join ch 3

R: 30 - Repeat  R: 28

R: 31 - Repeat R: 29

Forming The Thumb Hole: 

R: 32 - Ch 3 counts as 1 dc, 23 dc, ch 2, Turn, ch1

R: 33 - 24 sc, ch3, join to 1st sc, Turn, ch3 

R: 34 - 1 dc in each ch and sc, join, ch 1

R: 35 - 1 sc in each dc, join, ch3

R: 36 -1 sc in each dc, join, tie off, weave in your ends.

 If you want the hand portion longer, just add a row or 2.

Repeat for the 2nd Glove.

Remember there is not a right and A left - 

Both are crocheted the same.

New Pair Of Boot Cuffs From My Old Pattern

I made  myself a new pair of Boot cuffs, 

from my Old Boot Cuff pattern.

 I Love This pattern, it is quick and easy,

 plus the length is adjustable.

You can wear them up or 

roll them over the top of your boot.

And you can add a few row through the center

 to make them longer.

Color Block Chunky Scarf - Free Knitting Pattern

 This is an easy Knitting Pattern 
and works up super fast.
It is soft, long, thick and comfy!

The yarn I used is

Deborah Norville's Serenity Chunky Sequins.

I Purchased this yarn from Joann's 

and saved it for just the perfect project.

This scarf is it.
I stitched it up in 2 evenings! 

It is a soft chunky yarn with small 
sequins running through it
 to give it a little sparkle.
It is so soft and squishy.

The Colors I used are:

 Red- Ruby Slippers,

Navy Blue - Night Sky, and

Purple - Purple Rain

Finished Dimensions:

12 X 72 inches

Materials:

Straight Knitting Needles: US19 - 15mm

Yarn - Bulky Yarn ( 5) 3.5 oz - 93 yards each (3 skeins)

I skein of each: 

Red- Ruby Slippers   C1

Navy Blue - Night Sky  C2

Purple - Purple Rain  C3

Yarn Needle to weave in ends

Crochet Hook - H for attaching the fringe

Stitches and Abbreviations:

Knit  ( k)

Purl (p)

st (stitch)

Gauge-

21st  X 18 rows for a 12X12 inch swatch

Row 1 : With C1, Cast on 21 stitches, k across row

Row 2: k across row

Row 3 : k first 3 sts, P next 15 sts, k next 3 sts

Repeat Row 2 and Row 3 alternating for 18 rows

This will give you knit sts, garter stitch, on the edges, 

and Stockinette sts, in the center.

I like to st up the scarf with this method, 

to keep the scarf from curling on the sides.

Change to C2, Repeat Row 2 and Row 3 alternating for 18 rows

Change to C3, Repeat Row 2 and Row 3 alternating for 18 rows

k 2 more  rows. This gives you something to attach the fringe too.

Repeat With all 3 colors for a total of 2 blocks of each color.

Fringe: Cut 42 pieces of yarn, 14 of each color, 24 inches long. 

Using the Crochet Hook, loop a piece onto each st on both ends of the scarf.

The order of the fringe colors is up to you,

but I repeated red, purple, navy.

I hope you will make some of these.

This is a really basic Chunky Scarf Knitting Pattern.

You can have fun doing different colors.

You can use any chunky yarn, solid

 or variegated for different looks.

And make it color blocks or make it all one color.

Tons of color and style possibilities.

Anyway I Love mine.

I am so in love with chunky yarns right now.

 The chunkier the better.
