Gingerbread Dog Bandanna Crochet Pattern by Sara Sach

Skill: Easy

Materials:
Yarn Needle
Tape measure
Crochet Hook – H
Yarn – Worsted Weight (4) – Red heart Super Saver
             C1- Med. Brown, 3 oz., C2 - White, 2 oz.
             Small amount of Red and Green, or Bright Pink and Spring Green

Stitches:
Chain (ch)
Single Crochet (sc)
Double Crochet (dc)
Back Loop only (blo)
Front Loops only (flo)
Picot Stitch (pcst)

Special Stitch – Picot Stitch – sc, Ch 3, join to top of sc.

Size:   XS – 8  inch neck
             S - 10 inch neck
           M – 12 inch neck
Easily adjusted to larger sizes.

Notes:
Measure your dog’s neck with the tape measure.
Ch 3 at ends of rows counts as a dc.
Ch 1 does not count as a st.

Pattern:
R: 1 - Ch 4, 4 dc in the 4th ch from the hook, ch 3, turn (5dc)

R: 2 – 1 dc in the same st as the ch3, 1 dc in the next 3 dc, 2 dc in the last dc,
Ch3, turn, (7dc)

R: 3 - 1 dc in the same st as the ch3, 1 dc in the next 5 dc, 2 dc in the last dc,
Ch3, turn, (9dc)

R: 4 - 1 dc in the same st as the ch3, 1 dc in the next 7 dc, 2 dc in the last dc,
Ch3, turn, (9dc)

R: 5 - 1 dc in the same st as the ch3, 1 dc in the next 9 dc, 2 dc in the last dc,
Ch3, turn, (11dc)


R: 6 - 1 dc in the same st as the ch3, 1 dc in the next 11 dc, 2 dc in the last dc,
Ch3, turn, (13dc)

Skip to R:  11 for XS

R: 7 - 1 dc in the same st as the ch3, 1 dc in the next 13 dc, 2 dc in the last dc,
Ch3, turn, (15dc)

R: 8 - 1 dc in the same st as the ch3, 1 dc in the next 15 dc, 2 dc in the last dc,
Ch3, turn, (17dc)

Skip to R: 11 for Small

R: 9 - 1 dc in the same st as the ch3, 1 dc in the next 17 dc, 2 dc in the last dc,
Ch3, turn, (19dc)

R: 10 - 1 dc in the same st as the ch3, 1 dc in the next 19 dc, 2 dc in the last dc,
Ch1, turn, (21dc)

To make the bandanna even larger, continue to repeat R: 10 until desires Size.

R: 11 – Working in the Back loops Only, for this row only – 1 sc in each dc across,
Turn, (Xs -13sc, S-17dsc, M-21sc)

R: 12 – Ties - Ch  -Xs -15, S-20, M-25, slst in each ch across,  sc across top of bandanna,
ch  - XS -15, S-20, M-25, ch 2, turn.

The ties are short to keep from getting caught in toe nails and teeth.
If you want them longer, ch longer.

R: 13 – 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, and in each ch, 1 sc in each dc across,
1sc in each slst, ch 1 turn

R: 14 – 1 sc in each sc, ch1, turn

R: 15  - 1 sc in each sc, tie off weave in ends.

Frosting Trim
Make sure the side of the bandanna with the BLO is facing toward the back,
 as we will be stitching in the FLO.

Attach white yarn to the left side of the bandanna under the tie.
Stitching evenly down the side of the bandanna, placing 1 st in the end of each row.
*Work 2 sc, 1 sc pcst (see special st above)
Repeat From * to* down to the point then up the other side of the bandanna.
Continue to repeat from * to * across the front of the bandanna, in the
  Front loops of R: 11, Join to 1st sc.


Buttons – Make 3- 
Ch 3, 5 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, join to form a circle, 
tie off. (6 sc)
Leave a 10 inch tail of yarn for sewing button on front of bandanna.

Bow –
R: 1 - With Red/ Pink Ch 11, 1 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, 1 sc in each ch across,
ch 1, turn (10sc)

R: 2- 1 sc in each sc, ch1, turn (10sc)

R: 3 – R: 5 – Repeat R: 2, tie off, Weave in your ends.
Cut a 12 in piece of matching yarn, pinch the center of the bow and wrap the 
yarn around the bow 3 or 4 times.
Tie securely. Sew on to the top of the bandanna.
