The Striped Velvet Cowl is designed to

 match the Velvet Stocking Hat

I really like this Velvet Yarn From Hobby Lobby, 

called Velvety Smooth. It is smooth and easy to crochet

 with, but also it is a medium (4) so any pattern written

 for medium (4) Yarns will work with this yarn.

The Velvet Cowl is a lot of fun to stitch up. 

Do not be intimidated By Velvet Yarns. The key

 to working with them is to loosen your tension

 up just a little.

And it's perfect For the guys And the girls! 

The Pattern is easy, because it is stitched in basic

 stitches but we placed it at Easy to Moderate

 because of the velvet yarn.

The Cowl is stitched up with Double Crochet Stitches, 

so it is easy and fast to make. The Cowl or Hat and Cowl Set make lovely last minute Christmas Gifts.

Materials:
Crochet Hook – I / 5.5 MM
Yarn – Velvet Yarn - Med. (4) I used Yarnbee / Velvety Smooth Sparkle
                                                      C1 – Ivory – 3 oz / 140 yds
                                                      C2 – Olive – 3 oz. / 140 yds.
                                                      C3 – Red – 3 oz. / 140 yds.
Yarn needle
2 matching buttons, 2 - 3 inches
 
Stitches:
Chain (ch)
Single Crochet (sc)
Half Double Crochet (hdc)
Double Crochet (dc)
Front Post Double Crochet  Only (FPDC)
Back Post Double Crochet (BPDC)
Chang to (chgto)
 
Size: 12 X 28 Inches
 
Notes:
Ch counts as dc
When Changing Colors Ch3, after the color change
We will be carrying our yarn on the striped section of the cowl.
 
Pattern:
 
R: 1 – With C1, ch 31, dc in the 4^th ch from the hook,
1 dc in each ch cross, turn ch 3 (29dc)
 

R: 2 – Dc in the next dc,
*FPDC in the next dc, 1 dc in the next 2 dc*
Repeat From * to * 8 more times, turn, ch 3
(9 FPDC, 20 dc)
 

R: 3 - Dc in the next dc,
*BPDC in the next dc, 1 dc in the next 2 dc*
Repeat From * to * 8 more times, turn, ch 3
(9 BPDC, 20 dc)
 

 
R: 4 – Repeat R: 2
 
R: 5 – Repeat R: 3, do not ch 3
 

R: 6 – Chgto C2, ch3, 1 dc in each dc across, turn, ch3 (29dc)
 
R: 7 - 1 dc in each dc across, turn (29dc)
 

R: 8 - Chgto C3, leave C2, attached,
ch3, 1 dc in each dc across, turn, ch3 (29dc)
 
R: 9 - 1 dc in each dc across, turn (29dc)
 

R: 10 – R: 41 – Continue to repeat R: 6 – R: 9
Alternating Color every 2 rows
 

Continue to repeat if a longer Cowl/ Scarf is desired.

R: 42 – Chgto C1, Tie off both C2, and C3,
Ch3, Repeat R: 2
 

R: 43 – Repeat R: 3
 
R: 44 – Repeat R: 2
 
R: 45 – Repeat R: 3, ch1

R: 46 - Turn working down the edge of the cowl.

You will be working on the back side of the cowl.

This should be the edge where we carried our yarn.
Evenly sc across the edge of the cowl, tie off and weave in Your ends.
 
Lay the cowl with the edged together, and place your buttons.
With matching yarn securely sew them on stitching though the front and back of the cowl.

# 6 Christmas in July Free Pattern - Christmas Candy Cowl Knitting Pattern

I didn't want to leave out 

my friends who knit,

So I designed one of the

 Free Patterns for Christmas in July 2015, 

A Knitting Pattern.

Christmas Candy Cowl Knitting Pattern

It is similar to the 

Candy Cane Scarf Crochet Pattern, 

It is a stair step scarf, 

with Candy cane stripes

 and has green trim.

 I made this a cowl, 

But you can continue 

on with the pattern, 

and make it as long as you want.

If you are looking for these buttons,

I found them in the 

scrap booking department

 at my local Hobby Lobby.

They came in a package

 of 2, red, 2 white, 2 green.

and they are super glittery.

Christmas Candy Cowl Knitting Pattern By Sara Sach

Skill: Easy

Materials:

Knitting Needles- 8/5.0mm

Yarn – Worsted Weight (4) 2 oz each of Green C1, Red C2, White C3

            I used I Love This yarn Sparkle, Hobby Lobby

4 - ½ inch decorative buttons

Yarn needle to weave in ends

Stitches:

Cast On (CO)

 Bind Off (BO)

Knit (k)

Purl (p)

Size: 22  X 6 inches

R : 1- With C1, CO 28, k all sts

R : 2-7 – k all sts, Garter St

R : 8 –BO the 1^st 5 sts, change to C2, k all sts, CO 5 sts

We will be stitching in Stockinette
 for all the red and white stripes.

R 9-13 – k in Stockinette

R : 14 - BO the 1^st 5 sts, change to C3, k all sts, CO 5 sts

R : 15-19 - – k in Stockinette

R : 20 - BO the 1^st 5 sts, k all sts, CO 5 sts

R : 21-25 - k in Stockinette

R : 26-62 - Repeat R : 8-25 2 more times

If you want your Cowl longer repeat as many times as needed.

R : 62 - BO the 1^st 5 sts, change to C1, k all sts, CO 5 sts

R : 63-68 – K all sts, Garter St

R : 69- BO

 Line up to 1 ends and sew together with matching yarn.

Sew the buttons on down the center of the seam.

Christmas Cowl of Leftovers

Christmas Cowl of Leftovers

I was going through my plastic tub of Christmas yarn.

 I have several balls of yarn leftovers  from various Christmas projects. And as I played with them, I thought, "Oh this one
 or that one would make a nice Christmas cowl".

Some are Sparkly, some are furry, some are plain. 

I love all sorts of textures and colors of yarn.

Then I thought, "I'll crochet a cowl with them all!"

So I did.

I LOVE IT!!!!

So here is what I did.

You need to think more like an artist on this project. Relax and let your creative juices flow.

And although, This Cowl is designed with Christmas Yarns, you can make this with any yarn leftovers you have on hand.

Okay, lets get started!

This Cowl is stitched in rounds.

I will not be giving the yarn color changes.

as I just used up what I had, and changed colors, 
when I ran out of each color.

Christmas Cowl Crochet Pattern By Sara Sach

Skill: Easy

Materials -

Hook - K / 6.5 MM

Left over Yarns of Various weights, colors and textures.

All Worsted Weight yarns(4) are stitched with 2 strands held together.

All Chunky yarn is stitched single strand.(5 or 6)

The fun fir is stitched with 2 strands.

Stitches-
Chain ( ch)
Single Crochet ( sc)
Skip ( sk)

Size: About 27 Inches around, and 6 inches tall.

R: 1 - With 2 strands of any WW(4) yarn, Ch 81, join in a circle,

 being careful not to twist the ch.

81 chs = about 27 inches,

 If you want a longer cowl add chs in increments of 3.

3 ch = 1 inch

R: 2 - 1 sc in each ch around, join ( 81sc)

Stitch Count will be 81 through out the rest of the project.

R: 3 - From here on out, do not join. 

*ch 1, sk the next st, 1 sc in the next st*

Repeat From * to * around.

The Rest of the Cowl is stitched in the round without Joining.

R: 4 - *ch 1, sk the next st, 1 sc, in the next sc*

Repeat From * to * around.

Make sure you st the scs in the scs, for the pattern to look right.
It gives it a little bit of a ribbing effect.

R: 5-20 - Repeat R : 4

This will make your Cowl About 6 inches Wide, If you want your cowl wider,

 just add more rows.

R: 21 - For a furry trim, With 2 strands of fun fur, 

or 1 strand ww and 1 strand of fun fur.

1 sc in each st around, join this row for a nice even trim.

tie off and weave in all your ends.
