A Few Years a go I designed an African Flower Hexagon for fun.

 You can find that pattern HERE

I was playing around with the pattern, 
using up my left over yarn scraps, 
and put them together in a scarf.

 And Added Some Fringe.

The Size of The Scarf depends on you
and how long you want to make it.
 I like it at 48 inches long by 6 inches wide.

What is the Proper Way to Hold a Crochet Hook? Live Video | Posh Pooch Designs

A Question I received a couple of weeks ago was,

 "What is the proper way to hold a Crochet Hook"?

To be honest, there is NO proper way to hold a Crochet hook.

 You can hold it the way it is most comfortable for you.

There are, however, 2 ways that most people

 do hold their crochet hooks.

The Pencil and Knife Hold or Grip.

The Pencil Grip or Hold the hook is on top of your hand and actually hold the crochet hook like you would a pencil.

The Knife Hold or Grip - the hook is under your hand, and held that way you might hold a knife if you were slicing a loaf of bread.

There are many variations to both of these techniques.

Both ways are correct.. you hold the hook 

which ever way is the most comfortable for you.

There is not a right or wrong way to hold a crochet hook.

This Huge, Soft and Luscious Scarf is made with

A Red Heart Yarn called Stellar/ Nova.

 It is a beautiful yarn with a gold thread running through it. 

This yarn has deep jewel tones of purples, blues, 

greens and golds.

It is a thick boucle, so I made the pattern simple to crochet. 

But the end result is definitely not simple.

Although this yarn is a bulky 6, it is not heavy, 

and yet still very warm.

It will help you with working with this type of yarn 

and how to attach the fringe.

What a comfy and elegant scarf,

 perfect for any time of the day.

It also, makes a great wrap to throw on,

 when there is a chill in the air.

 A Slip Knot is the knot we use when starting a crochet chain.

A Slip Stitch is a Crochet Stitch, it is called a slip stitch because you are slipping one loop,through another loop.

A Slip Stitch is also the stitch we use to join a round or circle.

 So you see, The Slip Knot and Slip Stitch are 2 different techniques and have 2 different purposes.

This is my First Crochet Design specifically designed with the Caron Cakes Yarn in mind. And I absolutely love how it turned out.,
This lovely Scarf is designed using Caron Cakes yarn

 in Red Velvet. With rich shades of reds and grays, 

it is the perfect color choice.

It only takes 1 cake, 7.1 oz to crochet.

It is a Stair Step Scarf with a touch of chained Fringe.

Although, it is easy to crochet, it is a very elegant scarf to wear. As well as, being long and Classy.

 I wonder if I should make some more?

Yes, I should!

Any worsted weight yarn will work for this scarf,

 but I  really like how the long variegated colors

or what a post is?

I will try to explain in today's Video Chat,

Loops, Bumps and Posts... as it pertains to crochet!

Front Loop, Back Loop and Bottom Loop of the Chain.

Front and Back Post of a Stitch.

These are the loops on the top of the chain.

The loop facing you is the front loop, 

The loop facing away is the back loop.

The Bottom loop is the loop on the underneath side of the chain.

It runs down the center of the back of the chain.

The Post is the Body of the Stitch, 

whether it is single crochet, hdc, dc, tr or whatever the stitch is.

When you stitch the Front Post you stitch through

 on the side facing you.

The Hook is going under the Front post.

When you stitch the Back Post  you stitch through

 on the back side of the Post.

The Hook is going from the back, across the post, 

and stitched on the back side of the stitch.

This Picture shows 

Double Crochet Stitches 2 FP, 2BP, 2FP, 2BP 

You can see the stitches on the front, 

and the stitches on the back.

Reflective Dog Collar and Human Headband Crochet Pattern | Posh Pooch Designs

 I have a fun crochet pattern for you and your pooch.

When Summer begins to turn to fall, the days become shorter 

 And I end up walking the dogs in the darker and cooler hours

 of the morning and evening.

I designed this crochet pattern using the reflective yarns I had on hand. We live on 5 acres, so I don't leash my dogs
 when we are out walking. 
When they are wearing one of these collars  I can keep my flash light on my dogs and never loose them in the dark.

Also, cars going by can see us. 

 This Collar can be slipped on and off quickly, and works great with any sweater or harness. Their necks stay warm and safe,

and If their ears get cold, just pull it up over their ears.

Reflective Dog Collar and Human Headband Crochet Pattern

Skill: Easy

Materials:

 Crochet Hook - K Hook

Yarn - Red Heart Reflective Yarn (5) - 1 strand

           or I Love this yarn, Hobby Lobby- Reflective Yarn (4) - 2 strands

Yarn Needle

I've have a bunch of this yarn laying around and I need to use it.

Stitches:

Chain (ch)

Half Double Crochet (hdc)

Foundation Half Double Crochet (fd hdc)

Front Post Double Crochet (fpdc)

Back Loop Only (blo)

Size: Headband - 20 inches X 4 inches  - Youth to Adult

          Dog Collar - 10 inches X 4 inches

Gauge: 2 hdc = 1 inch, 2 rows = 1 inch

Pattern Notes:

ch 2 counts as a hdc, join rounds with a sl st

Pattern is written for headband (18 to 20 inch)

   with dog collar in Parenthesis (10 inch collar)

How to measure your dogs neck:

Measure your dog's neck loosely and add 1 inch 

           

Pattern:

R: 1 - 40 (20 fd hdc - See video above for an explanation

join in a circle, ch 2 ( 40,20 fd hdc - the st count remains the same throughout the project)
Use the tail of the yarn to close the gap left when joining - see Video above.

R: 2 - *1 fpdc in the next st, 1 hdc in the next st* Repeat From * to * around, join. ch 2

R: 3 - Blo, 1 hdc in each st around, join, ch 2

R: 4 - 1 hdc in each hdc, join, ch 2

R: 5 - R : 6 - Repeat R: 4

R: 7 - Repeat R: 3

R: 8 - Repeat R : 2, tie off weave in your ends.

Tie: Ch 30, tie off and weave in the ends. attach to the front of the 

Headband/ Collar and tie a bow.

So, if You have some Reflective Yarns laying around,

 this crochet pattern is perfect.

Whether you have Red Heart or I Love This yarn, 

both yarns work great for this pattern.
