Leaf Jumper Hat Crochet Pattern

There's a chill in the air, the trees are all wearing their 

bright gold, orange and Brown. And all the leaves are 

starting to fall to the ground. Carving pumpkin time is near. 

It's sweater and hat weather, my favorite time of Year!

It's Fall Y'all!

I call This Hat The "Leaf Jumper Hat" Because it is the
 perfect hat to wear in the Fall, when you are 
raking up leaves into giant piles, and then jump into them. 
I loved doing this as a child and even 

well into my adult years. I Still love it!

Skill: Easy

Materials:

Crochet Hook – I

Yarn – Worsted Weight (4) 1 skein - 3oz.

             I used Red Heart Supersaver- Fall Variegated

1 Button - 1 inch

Yarn needle

Stitches:

Chain (ch)

Slip Stitch (slst)

Single Crochet (sc)

Double Crochet (dc)

Back Loop Only (blo)

Skip (sk)

Together (tog)

Size:

Youth to Adult – 18 to 20 inch head.
2 Rows = 1 hdc  - Hat Band

Notes:

Ch3 Counts as dc.

Ch1 does not count as a st, it is a turning ch.

Pattern:

R :1 - Starting with the Hatband –

Ch 7, 1 hdc in the 2^nd ch from the hook,

And in each ch across, ch1, turn (6hdc)

R : 2- Working in the blo, 1 hdc in each hdc, ch1, turn (6hdc)

R: 3 – R: 42 - Repeat R: 2

Do not tie off after R: 42

Place the 2 ends together and sc closed to form the hatband.

Do not tie off.

R: 43 – dc evenly around the top of the hatband,

(Place 1dc in the top of ridge, 2 dc between each ridge)

join to the 1^st dc with a slst,

(63dc)

R: 44 – Ch 3(counts as a dc) *sk the next dc, 1dc in the next 2 dc,

Cross back across the front of the 2dc sts, and dc in that sk st*,

Repeat From * to * around hat, join the last st in the top of the ch3 with a slst,

(63 sts)

R: 45 –1 dc in each st around, join (63dc)

R: 46 – Repeat R: 54

R: 47 – Repeat R: 55

R: 48 – Repeat R: 54

R: 49 - Repeat R: 55

R: 50 - Repeat R: 54

R: 51 - Repeat R: 55

For Slouchy –Repeat R : 54 and 55  2 more times

R: 52: 1dc in 1st st, *st tog the next 2 dc*

Repeat From * to * around, join (32dc)

R: 53 – 1 dc in each dc, join. (32dc)

R: 54 – 1 dc in each dc, join. (32dc)

R: 55 -  *st tog the next 2 dc*

Repeat From * to * around, join tie off, leaving a 16 inch yarn tail. (11dc)

Turn Hat wrong side out. Thread the tail of yarn in the yarn needle.

Gather the top of the hat closed and tie securely,

So it will not be able to be pulled open.

Sew on your button with matching thread.
