Cluck, The Chicken Pot Holder Crochet Pattern

Please Note:
 if you are using these for Wall Decoration
 Acrylic yarn is Great.
But if you are using these for putting
 hot pans or pots on them, use Cotton yarn.
 Acrylic yarn melts easily.

Skill: Easy

Materials:
Crochet Hook – H/ 5.00MM
Yarn – Worsted Weight (4) or Cotton (Main Color – MC,
                                                 Small Amount of red, yellow, Brown)
Yarn Needle

Stitches:
Chain (ch)
Slip Stitch (sls st)
Single Crochet (sc)
Double Crochet (dc)
Skip (sk)

Size: 9 inches

Notes:
Chain 3 Counts as a Double Crochet
Chain 1 does not count as a Single Crochet
Join to ch3 with a Slip Stitch

R: 1 – Ch 5, join in a circle, ch3, 9 dc in the ch 5 circle,
Join to ch 3, ch3 (10dc)

R: 2 – 1 dc in the same st as the ch3, 2 dc in each dc around, join, ch3 (20 dc)

R: 3 – *2 dc in the next dc, 1 dc in the next dc*
Repeat From * to * Around, Ch 3,
DO NOT JOIN, TURN. (30dc)

R: 4 - 1 dc in the same st as the ch3,
 *1 dc in the next 2 dc, 2 dc in the next dc,*
Repeat From * to * Around, Ch 3,
DO NOT JOIN,  TURN. (40dc)

R: 5 -  1 dc in the same st as the ch3,
*1 dc in the next 3 dc, 2 dc in the next dc,*
Repeat From * to * Around, Ch 3,
DO NOT JOIN,  TURN. (50dc)

R: 6 -  1 dc in the same st as the ch3,
*1 dc in the next 4 dc, 2 dc in the next dc, *
Repeat From * to * Around, Ch 1,
DO NOT JOIN,  TURN. (60dc)

R: 7 – 1 sc in the 1st dc, *sk 2 dc, 5 dc in the next dc, 
sk 2 dc, 1 sc in the next sc*
Repeat From * to * 7 times,

1 sc in the next 4 dc, sk next 3 sc, 8 dc in the next dc, 
sk next 3 dc, sc in the next dc.

Evenly sc to the center of the chicken, ch 12,
 join to previous sc with a slst,
sc up the other side, tie off, weave in your ends.

R: 8 – Join 2nd color to the sc of the tail or back the chicken.
*1 sc in the 1st 2 dc, 2 dc in the next dc, 1 dc in the next 2 dc,
1 sc in the next sc stitching below the sc* (sometimes called a long single crochet)
Repeat From * to * 7 more times. I sc in that last sc,  Tie off.

Chicken Head
Join red yarn to the 1 sc in the next 4 sc, tie off

Beak: Join yellow yarn to the 1st dc of the head, ch 4, 
slst in the 2nd ch, sc in the next 2 chs,
Join to the 2nd dc, tie off

Join Red Yarn to the dc after the beak, 2 sc in the 1st dc, 1 dc in the next dc, 
2 dc in the next dc, 1 dc in the next 4 dc, tie off.

With Brown Yarn, stitch on eye with 2 short stitches.
And That is how easy it is to crochet

I will definitely be making these! My grandmother was an antiquer and she collected roosters. These remind me of her.
