Our Practice Project is a "Pretty Bow"

Skill: Easy

Materials:

Crochet Hook - H / 5.00MM

Yarn - Worsted Weight (4) 1 color

Yarn Needle

Scissors

Stitches:

Chain (ch)

Slip Stitch (slst)

Single Crochet (sc)

Half Double crochet (hdc)

Double crochet (dc)

Back Loop Only (BLO)

Front Loop Only (FLO)

Size: 3 X 4 inches

Notes:

Ch1 or Ch2 Does Not Count as a Stitch

R: 1 - Ch 11, 1 sc in the 2nc ch from the hook,

1 sc in each ch across, ch1, turn. (10 sc)

R: 2 - Working in BLO 1 hdc in each sc, ch2 turn, (10 hdc)

R: 3 - Working in the FLO 1 dc in each hdc, ch1, turn ( 10 dc)

R: 4 - R: 14 - Repeat R : 2 and R : 3. alternating the rows.

R: 15 - 1 sc in each hdc, 

Put the ends of the bow together and slst together.

Tie off leaving a 18 inch tail of yarn.

Wrap the tail of yarn tightly around the center to form a bow.

tie off and weave in your ends.

Today's Lesson we are learning to Half Double Crochet

 Around, How to increase, change colors and join.

What You Need For The Lesson 7:

Crochet Hook - H/ 5.00MM

Yarn - 3 colors of Worsted weight (4)

Yarn Needle

Scissors

Our Practice Project:

Small Drawstring Bag Crochet Pattern by Sara Sach

Skill: Beginner

Materials:

Crochet Hook - H/ 5.00MM

Yarn - 3 colors of Worsted weight (4)
          ( C1, C2, C3)

Yarn Needle

Scissors

Stitches:

Chain (ch)

Slip Stitch (slst)

Half Double Crochet (hdc)

Change to (Chgto)

Stitch (st)

Notes:

ch 2 counts as a hdc

Rows are joined to the ch2 with a Slst

Size: 4 X 3 inches

R: 1 - With c1, Ch 5, Form in a circle, ch2, 9 hdc in the circle,

join, ch 2 ( 10 hdc)

R: 2 - 1hdc in the same st as the ch2, 

2 hdc in each st around, join, ch 2 ( 20 hsc)

R: 3 - 1 hdc in each st around, join, ch 2 ( 20hdc)

R: 4- Chgto C2, Repeat R: 3

R: 5 - Repeat R : 3

R: 6 -Chgto C3, Repeat R: 3

R: 7 - Repeat R: 3

R: 1- Repeat R: 3, tie off weave in your ends.

Drawstring :

 Ch 25, tie off, cut your yarn.

Weave the tie through R : 10,  2 sts at a time.

What you need for Lesson Six

Crochet Hook - H/ 5.00MM
Yarn - Worsted Weight Yarn (4) - 2 colors
Yarn Needle
A Button  - 1 to 1.5 inch
Scissors

Practice Project - Coffee Cup Cozy

Skill: Beginner

Materials:

Crochet Hook - H/ 5.00MM

Yarn - Worsted Weight Yarn (4) 2 colors

Yarn Needle

Scissors

1 Button - 1 to 1.5 inch

Stitches:

Chain (ch)

Slip Stitch (slst)

Half Double Crochet (hdc)

Change to (chgto)

Size: 9.5 X  3.5 inches

Notes:

Ch1 does not count as a st

When Changing colors, Ch1 after the color change

When changing colors, Do not cut yarn, tail it up the side.

R: 1 - With Color 1, Ch10, turn, 1 hdc in the 2nd ch from the hook,

1 hdc in each ch across, (9 hdc)

R: 2 - Ch1, 1 hdc in each hdc, turn (9 hdc)

R: 3 - Chgto Color 2, ch1, 1 hdc in each hdc, turn

(which is the top, were the tail was tailed up the side)

Tie off and weave in your ends.

Center Button, and sew in place using matching yarn and needle.

Practice Project:
Double Crochet Headband

Skill: Beginner

Materials:
Crochet Hook - H/ 5.00MM
Yarn - Worsted Weight Yarn (4)
Yarn Needle
Scissors
Tape Measure

Stitches:
Chain (ch)
Slip Stitch (slst)
Single Crochet (sc)
Double Crochet (dc)

Size: 20 X 2 inches

Notes:
Ch3 counts as a dc

Ch1 Does not Count as a st

R: 1 - Ch 9, 1 dc in the 4th ch from the hook,

1 dc in the next 5 chs, turn, ch3 (7dc)

R: 2 -Ch3 counts as 1st dc, 1 dc in the next 6 dc, 

turn, ch3 (7dc)

R: 3 - R: 40  -  Repeat R: 2

Put the ends of the headband together and slst closed,

 tie off, weave in your ends.

Center Band -

R: 1 - Ch 7, 1 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, 

1 sc in the next 5 chs,

turn, ch 1 (6sc)

R: 2 -1 sc in each sc, turn, ch1 (6sc)

Tie off leaving a 10 inch tail of yarn.

Wrap around the headband and 
sew in place using the tail of yarn.

These are perfect headbands for everyday.

"What Are Some Tips For Crochet Beginners?"

I have put together 6 tips or suggestions for beginners.

1. Learn To Read a Written Crochet Pattern - Do not depend on videos or pictures. Videos and pictures are to help you. But You will miss out on a lot of wonderful patterns and techniques if you do not learn pattern reading basics. And if you do not know a stitch...Google is your Friend!

2. Remember, American terms are not the same a European terms. Check the pattern before starting, and ask the designer of the pattern, if it is not clearly stated. Abbreviations, terms and 
even stitches can be different.

3. Do not crochet above your skill level - If you are just beginning do try to stitch up a pattern is that is too hard. Search Beginner patterns on Ravelry or Pinterest. You will only get frustrated and want to give up. Once you have mastered a stitch or technique, you can move up to the next level.

4. Do not expect perfection - Yes we want our pieces to be perfect, but Crochet is an art, and some of the missteps or imperfections can be really beautiful!

5. Slow and Steady - Practice, practice, practice - You will need to practice, make swatches, lots of taking out and trying.

Again, Crochet is an art, an ever growing art. The more you practice the better you will become.

6. Learn To Measure as you Go -Your tape measure is one of the most important tools in your crochet bag - Learn to measure as you go, and measure everything. It will save you frustration and time.

Here is a Basic Description of the Crochet Pattern 
Skill Levels

Beginner - Projects for first-time crocheters using basic 

stitches and techniques. Minimal shaping. 

( For Example - slip stitches, Single Crochet, Double Crochet, half Double Crochet)

Easy - Projects using basic stitches and techniques, 

repetitive stitch patterns, simple color changes, 

and some shaping.

(For Example - Front post and Back post stitches, Front loop and Back Loop Stitches)

Intermediate - Projects using a variety of stitches and 

techniques, multiple color changes, And more advanced

 shaping, finishing techniques.

(For Example -cables, tapestry, Tunisian)

Experienced - Projects using intricate stitch patterns,

,

techniques and textures. Multiple color changes,

 fine threads, small hooks, detailed shaping and finishing.

( Intricate lace work, difficult placement of stitches)

This is the standard among most crochet designers,

but there is some " wiggle room"  on the part of 

crochet pattern designers.
