Live Video Chat - Help! My dog Won't wear His Sweater! | Posh Pooch Designs

This Weeks Question for Our Live Video Chat is

 "Help, I bought my dog a sweater and 

they will not wear it, Why not?

The Answer to Your Question is,

 "It does not smell good to them!"

Dogs are Creatures of smell and scent.

That's why they sniff stuff, like other dog's butts.

A Dog will eat or lick weird things if it smells 'good".

The Sweater needs to smell like a smell the dog likes.

Well, how do we do that?

There are a couple of things that will work.

When your buy or make a sweater, hat or even a new blanket for your dog you need to get it to smell good to them.

So first off, the day before you want them to wear it,

 rub it on your arm, or leg to get your sent on it.

They love you and will like it if it smells like you.

Another thing you can do is place the new item in their crate or bed, under their blanket. But not when they are laying on it.

 They may tear it up. But after they leave their spot lay the new item under their blankets and leave it their.

 It will get their sent on it.

The 2nd part of the Question 

" Does my dog really need a sweater?"

Most dogs do not, it is just fun to dress them up.

 But Dogs who do need a sweater are inside dogs who 

are not used to the cold. Also hairless dogs and cats.

Just watch your dog and see if they are cold, and you make the decision.

Posh Pooch Designs 

Who came first?
Posh Pooch Designs or Maximo and Rosie?

It All began with a little white spotted 

Chihuahua named Maximo.

My sister helped me find him. I really wanted a little girl dog,

But when we went to pick him up,

 I think we bonded on the spot.

The door was opened and he walked out, a little thin, a little scraggly, in need of a bath, but so beautiful.

 My sister picked him up and handed him to me.

He looked at me and licked my face.

That was it! I was his.

I named him Maximo because it means Bright little child.

He was very smart and learned his name 

and my commands quickly.

I started making him little sweaters and 

hats because he was cold all the time.

As most chihuahuas are.

I was worried that he was lonely when we were gone from the house and So we decided to get him a little sister.

When we got Rosie she was 14 weeks old 

and weighed 1.4 lbs.

 She was tiny and under fed, but I saw a special 

spark in her eyes and bounce in her step.

We were going to call Her Lily Bell, but when my

 husband saw her, he changed her name

to Rossita Bell -  Which means Rosebud.

At First I had to give her puppy milk, 

everything else made her sick. Eventually, she was able

 to eat real puppy food. 

As she grew bigger and stronger, 

her bond with Maximo grew as well.

He mothered her like she was his baby.

She was very playful and he was very patient.

Today they are inseparable. If one goes to the Vet. 

They both have to go or the other 

will cry the whole time they are gone.

Maximo and Rosie are the heart of 

Posh Pooch Designs

These two sweet and loving pooches are

 the reason I started designing

 and creating dog Sweaters, hats and a bunch more.

As well as, the reason I keep on designing.

You will rarely see on pooch without the other.

 I was a little bothered that now that Maximo 

and Rosie or 7 and 8 years old, that they are 

considered Senior Dogs.

They are still so young and playful, such patient 

Dog models.

They will do what ever is asked of them for the 

payment of a dog cookie or 2.

I still design Dog items, but also design items for people.

 That is why my I changed my theme from,

"Where crochet has gone to the dogs."

to

"Designs for pooches, designs for people,

 and designs for fun!"

Lucy and Charlie Brown Dog Sweaters | Posh Pooch Designs

A few years back I designed these 2 Dog sweaters.

We have recently re-tested, 

re-edited and Up dated both these crochet Patterns.

And put them together in a Crochet Pattern Bundle.

 I named them Lucy and Charlie Brown 

because they resemble the Lucy and Charlie Brown

 of The Peanuts Gang.

The Lucy Style Dress is a simple dog dress with a 

gentle ruffle on the bottom, Small puff sleeves

 and cute little buttons on the back. 

The Crochet pattern can be stitched with

 or without the chest section.

The Charlie Brown Style Dog Sweater

is also a simple design and can be stitched with

 or without the chest section.

The zig zag stripes are done by simple

 granny square stripes.

Both these Sweaters are designed for Dogs 2-15 Lbs,

There are instructions for measuring your dog 

and adjusting the patterns to fit them.

Both are designed to be stitched with worsted weight (4) yarns, 

as to make them washable and durable.

What Is "Posh Pooch Designs"? | Posh Pooch Designs

The Theme and Goals of 

Posh Pooch Designs 

 has changed several times 

from it's beginning.

At First it started out simply making

 Dresses and Dog Sweaters, 

 and bandannas to sale in local Shops and pet care stores. 

It was a lot of work and  fun. 

But as people wanted more sweaters,

 I no longer make and sell the sewn Dog Dresses.

And I no longer sale in local shops.

 I sell the sweaters, sweater dresses, hats, 

and various Dog related crochet and knit items,

 online only.

It is still a lot of fun and work, but a lot less stressful.

Fans and friends wanted the Crochet patterns

 to make their own.

So, I began selling my

Crochet Patterns on Ravelry

As people began making my patterns, 

They began to ask for matching hats,  

fun hats and Character hat crochet patterns.

So I added a bunch of hats to the collections.

Then, I decided to Open an Etsy Shop.

 Where you will find Crochet Patterns and 

Custom made items for your pooches.

So you can make it yourself, 

or have me make it for you.

I will custom make anything you want for your

Is Time Valuable? | Posh Pooch Designs

It is Free, and Given Freely, 

But It is not, At No Cost.

TIME

A lady I met at the local Park,

 asked me to make a dog Sweater.

A fun gift for her friend's Dog. 

She told me exactly what colors of yarn

 she wanted, as well as, 

the style of dog sweater.

 One with lots of Ruffles 

and a big bow on the back..

This is my Rosie in her Red Ruffle Sweater Dress.

Here in Colorado, Winters are cold, 

And Furbabies do need sweaters

Then she asked, " How much will it cost"?

I Told her the price. 

The Dog Sweater will be $22.99

 for the size you need."

"What, WOW, I can buy the yarn at 

Hobby Hobby for a lot less.!"

 She said, rather loudly.

"Yes, You can, but all you will 

have is some pretty yarn."

I kindly replied.

If you want me to make it into a sweater, 

it will cost you $22.99.

She said, "Ill get back to you."

What it costs ME to make a Dog Sweater:

Yarn - 

for a Small dog Sweater it cost between $7-$10, depending on yarns.

Couple more $$ if I need a hook in the right size.

plus gas to go to the Store

Time-

It takes me 3 hours  to make a small dog Sweater.

More if there are lots of details and/or ruffles.

So, if I am paid  Minimum Wage, it would be $8.00 an hour.

$24.00 in time.

I got Rosie When She was 12 weeks old,
